Im dreading it oh god. I havent studyed and i dont know where to start....
I just couldnt be arsed to be honest. Ive no homework done for tomorow, ill either do it in the morning, forge a note or do it in class. I couldnt be arsed to do anything as to me ive better things to do like going on computer and out with frends and doing sports. I know i should have a bit of cop on but i dont know where to start,.... any suggestions?

Also my parents think im studying but im actually doing other stuff like computer games etc..... Im usually a C or a B type of person and want to boost up my grades. I would take out books to study but its too much effort and id get bored and wander in my own world after 5 mins... Guess ive a short concentration span or im too lazy. I mean i get good enough results when i want to like i got a A in maths for the mocks but thats cause i wanted too and put the head down... any ideas :(

You said you can get good grades when you care and put your head down. So if you care about getting good grades, put your head done and study! I woulkdn't worry about The JC anyway, its really easy, requires very little study and even if you do quite badly it doesn't actually matter. I would be highly surprised if you ever get asked for your JC results ever again in your life and it certianly wont matter in a job interview or anything like that. Just relax and do your homework and a little bit of study before the exams start and you should be fine!

Ask for help form you parents and teachers.

What would encourage you to study? What do you waste your time on?

Computers/phones/ technology! Ive even taken my games console out of my room the last month but nothin has happened! Ive join supervised study after school 3 times a week . I went on monday and the teacher gave out to me for playing with a little spring off a pen for half a hour  Things are getting a little better. If im looking forward to something id put my head down but when the thing im looking forward to (eg a gig, new game etc) goes away im back to square one. Oh yeah i did my HW!

i'm in the same boat as you man...studying is just so hard to actually apply yourself to it :(
BUT! The last week is a study week, if I study like hell there I should be OK.

simular boat as ye both. but the teachers say it's not too late to study... when the block classes come in before the JC i will really get my head down...but I am easily distracted....half of the time get distracted doing anything not attracting(homework, fixing anything. I even get distracted eatting). - alas the PC and Playstation have taken their toll! :(

I'm exactly the same! don't sweat it, you'll be grand if you even do a little bit of study. I wish I know did a bit of study for the mocks because I kind of wasted a good opurtunity to see how I could do. There should be a pre-mock, then a mock, and then the real thing! actually no, thatd suck

I went to a "green awards" night with a few tachers and pupils a while back, I had to do evening study to like stay in school til he awards and it was TORTURE. Silent torture. I need music to study!!

I'm sorta like that too, but I don't study so I don't need music! They allow you to bring in MP3 players, and Mobile Phones to encourage more people to do it. You're also allowed bring food and drink(as long as it's not alcoholic :D )

From what I've heard Supervised Study in my school is bent so I don't do it.
I wouldn't be able to study in it if I did though. I can never study during a (supervised) free class in school.
But I can't study at home either. I'm too addicted to the internet/music/guitar/DVDs etc. But my results aren't bad though.

How long exactly do we get off to study before the JC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭macroman

About a week, I will probably drag myself to study once or twice during the week. It'd be a struggle as always when I attempt to study

I think you should just relax and remember that not getting excellent results in the JC isn't the end of the world..unless you have strict parents etc. to impress. So long as you don't fail stuff, it's really only to get you into your classes for the LC.

From what I'm told it won't matter really if you're doing the Leaving Cert. Which I will be so....

Yeah, I only started studying um, yesterday. It's weird, all my friends (who've been studying for the past few months) are going 'ah, I don't feel like studying' now, and I'm like  ARRRRGGGHHH!!! I find studying on my own is easier. And take regular breaks if you can't concentrate. No point in forcing yourself to learn off maths when you're really hungry/thirsty/tired/don't understand what the hell you're supposed to be doing.
