Hi, has anyone got any opinions about DIT Kevin street? I am considering doing the level 8 DT211 course on offer. I am not trying to offend people but i have heard it is somewhat "run-down". This most likely is bull**** as i know the place is old but it cant be as bad as my guidence councellor said.Is the place a more "down to earth" sort of place? I just feel the DT211 seems more "rounded" than most other courses in ireland(UCD included). sorry for sounding like a prick:(
any info on kevin st. would be helpful. thanks.

It probaly is run down. But i think thats a good thing. COurse i did had alot of some clases in aungier street, which i hated. THe place is far to clean, its disturbing.

I think kevin street has a homely feel too it. Its not a posh looking as aungier street, but does that matter? the computer labs are grand, so are the lecture rooms. Its not like the place is crumbling down around you, its just nothing like as new as aungier street.

If your in Dublin pop in a take a look around yourself.

I went to Kevin Street (although this was 10 years ago.)

The place is a bit old, but it's not a problem. I'd be more worried about the lack of females and poor education! (seriously)

Basically (at least when I was there) it's like being in an all boys school where the exams are easy to pass...

I just thought that since the idea that a modern building like aungier st looks posh is so stupid, you must have been talking about the students.

and besides, would the situation that i discribed not LOOK posh?

it does the job. facilities wise it has the snackery, cafeteria, swimming pool, gym, arcade (get some new games!#@!) and so on....

COmpared to kevin street it looks posh.

Yes, that situation would look posh. I was talking about the decor of augnier street, its alot better looking then kevin street.

@Naikon: Just to add, the picture posted by bounty above is a little deceiving. It's the front of the run-down Science wing of Kevin St, i.e for the most part its home to the physics, chemistry and other science labs.

The labs and rooms for the computervstudents are in the 'New' part of Kevin St, which is a lot more modern looking.

But really, as was suggested before, best thing you can do for yourself is to just take a walk around the campus on a Saturday and check the place out.

Kevin st is the best college in dublin, its a bit of a mess, but the people are great, theres no head up their arse people there!!

    Thanks for that;)
Sounds alot better than the "stories" i have heard about UCD.
My cousin told me he didnt like the place one bit plus its difficult enough getting into the city
without having to commute further to a campus like UCD.
    Cheers Everyone:)

friend of mine's in UCD and spends most of his time anywhere but UCD, and is likely to fail this year because of it. he doesn't like the "poshos" etc.

Before I left secondary school, I was determined to go to UCD, I don't know why, but I just really wanted to go. Then towards the end of 6th year, I realised the only reason I wanted to go was because everyone else was going. I then looked at my options, and thought alot about the type of course I wanted to do, and I finally chose DIT Kevin Street.

I'm glad I did, it's grown on me! And as for the guys that ended up in UCD, most of them thought it was great for about 2 weeks, then they hated the place!

Kevin Street in my opinion has got great facilities, and is far from run-down. It's in the centre of town, yet it's got it's own little space out of the way. I rarely went to Aungier street. It's the type of place all those people that really wanted to go to UCD, but didn't get the points, go to...

The majority of lecturers are fairly sound, but there's always one or two your not going to like.... that's life, and with the Cornerstone down the road, you'll be socialising and making friends in no time, even if you don't drink!

In fairness the Kevin St campus is a bit run down but overall it's still probably one of the best places to go to college. No (well almost no) pretentious yaw yaws, everybody is really down to earth and the place generally has a great atmosphere.

I disagree with the guy who said it was like a boys school though. There's plenty of chick's there now, even if the standard of ornathology isn't quite up to that of Aungier St. (although they're mostly stuck up morketing birds anyway :p ). And the exams sure as hell aren't dumbed down! At least they weren't in my course, which incedentally was 211 (or DT266 as it was known back then) and there's also at least a couple of other courses that are rated among the toughest in the country.
