What chance did we have anyway? both caught in the headlamps
of a past not far enough away, and too close for comfort,
Strange to look back now and see all the signs,
the wallpaper fading and peeling down the back
of an old couch, a symbol of the apathy that struck us down,
standing still, a watch whose batteries have run down,
kinetic energy could have revitilised, if only we had moved in time,
instead the clock freezes as the seasons change and here we are
    where we've always been

inevitable then that the end would come, unable to turn the tide
with no forward momentum in mind,
struck by the suddeness, shadowy existence as we come to terms
    with this new reality,
there has always been an undercurrent, but when did it turn into a raging flood?
angry enough to sweep away anything we may have had
far from perfect, but comforting to us both

and now, what are we? two leaves shaken by the wind from a single tree,
each carried on an individual path, occasionally crossing each other if the wind makes it so,
when the bluster of work and family dies down, we rest again on the ground,
alone once more, with heady contemplation of what comes next,

before the thought completes that wind picks up again,
and once more we drift, without thought or control to an ending neither can see, but hope will be bright

    This really resonates with me.

I like the metaphors, especially the wallpaper and leaves.

Even though the structure is somewhat clunky, it works.

    Well done.

    I like it.
Last line didn't work for me though.
