I am currently doing research for a project on "The Concept of Power" and I need to give reference to energy policies, both national and international. I'm struggling to find what decisions have been made by our government and what our govts priorites are. Any help????

Ireland is one of the most oil dependant countries in the world and there’s no sign of a change in that anytime soon. Any significant increase in oil prices will have a devastating effect on Ireland. There is talk of public transport converting to bio fuels but I've heard the percentages on efficiency are low for these fuels.
The recent green grants for wood pellets and solar panels in housing are for heat and water only. We are still dependant on ESB to supply our electricity. Also, even with the grants, they are still expensive to install and some existing homes may find them incompatible.
Check out the diy/ gardening section as there are a few threads on these issues.
Haven’t got all the figures on percentages of power from renewable sources and the potential percentages we could be achieving but a quick look through this forum and the diy will throw up alot of information because im sure ive seen these issues talked about in threads before and you will find links to relevant websites.

on the international side of it, check out sweden and iceland who are both aiming to be the worlds first oil free economys.

I'd imagine ESB's site is a good starting point regarding national decisions, as would be any other energy player (e.g. Eirtricity).

Internationally, I'd say you want to look at Kyoto first and foremost - cause there isn't much else out there at the moment.

As for the government's priorities....I'd guess the party site?

    anyone?
Jeez dude...give it a bit more than 9 minutes.

Other sources nationally are the National Development Plan, National Climate Change Programme and Green paper on sustainable energy. We wait in anticipation for Minister Dempsey Energy Policy due out in June. The Eirgrid web site has a good documentation page, another site to visit is the Commission for Energy Regulation CER lots of documentation there too.

Eu - for renewables, now discussing ECCP II, European Climate Change Programme II, the direction the EU is now taking with renewable energy. I am not sure what international policies there but maybe there would be a follow through from the EU sites if you follow up on ECCP II

    GOOD LUCK

Also have a look at the europa website for european policies and statistics
    http://europa.eu.int/index_en.htm

    http://europa.eu.int/pol/ener/index_en.htm

Another good website is the international energy agency http://www.iea.org/

    http://www.iea.org/Textbase/subjectqueries/index.asp

You should get some nice info and stats there

They have a page on all of their member countries where you can see individual stats and info for each country, Irelands page is here http://www.iea.org/Textbase/subjectqueries/countryresult.asp?country=IE&SubmitA=Submit
