    Hey all,
Just wanted to throw out a post on the MMA League in Limerick yesterday.

Firstly, the organisation was excellent. It was certainly the best organised amateur tournament I've been to and the fights come thick and fast. In addition the atmosphere was friendly and cool, everybody got on well and it showed with the respect shown on the mat.

I got on okay, it was a good experience primarily which was what I wanted out of it. The no head contact rule was hard for me in the stand-up but I managed to restrain myself from throwing a jab or two. I drew my first fight after avoiding a couple of submission attempts, the first one off a dumb ass, head-down crash into the clinch! But I was a little dissappointed not to do more on the ground. But credit to the guy he killed the action there and nearly got an armbar on late on as I was trying to pass. Time just ran out for me as I got my first dominant position on the ground as the 5 minutes were up.

I got to fight Ger Healy next. I tried to keep this standing for as long as possible but I made the mistake of loading up on a kick and got taken down for my troubles, from there, he had the initiative and took my back, finished with a rear naked choke. Feck! It went on slightly longer than that but that's all I remember.

But what a learning experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to test their ability in a "free range":) fight in a safe, friendly environment.

    Roll on the next one!

Yea I'll echo Barry post good event and well worth the entry fee to compete. As usual all the competitors showed respect for each other which is cool.

Barry I was like the spider you walked into my trap
Nah just got the lucky take down and managed to stay on top that all :). Great to talk with you again

Credit to Mark Leonard for the orgainisation, the system he was set up for running league events is first rate IMO and makes it easy to run a good event.

Thanks to everyone who came, the day went well and there was some great fights. The highlight for me was the heavyweight fight between Philip Fox and Sergey from my club, heavy hitters!:)

The only negative point was that there were a few injuries, but hopefully the girls won't be out of action for too long. :(

I'll be up and about soon and hopefull will be fit and able for the next league!!:D :D

Just a tip for everyone; weight lifting gloves are great if you are ever misfortunate enough to be on crutches. I'll be off them in a few days though.

Oh Mark a friend of mine was referring to you in a TKD/Kickboxing/MMA conversation recently, he's about your age from Kilkenny, named Alan. Just letting you know you're reaching legendary status akin to JK.

Good to know, good to know! Though I am not sure how you can be a legend based on administrative skills, but I'll take it anyway its going :D
