They nicke that from a Dylan Thomas poem about his father's death

"Do not go quietly into the night, rage, rage, against the dying of the light."

I liked Dennis Raysbert (sp?) as David palmer in 24. Not a movie, but a damn good prez.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    hmm...Leslie Neilson u say....sooo...hard...to....argue :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 337 ✭✭HappyCrackHead

    Alan Alda in Canadian Bacon

    or...

Martin Sheen in the West Wing... can u find the connection between these two actors... its easy Alan Alda is IN the west wing RUNNING for president.

should be cool when Jimmy Smiths wins.

I'd have to agree about Bill Pullman and yer man from 24. Did Morgan Freeman ever play one? I seem to remember him playing a president but I cant rightly remember, he was good in that film anyway, as he always is.

that would have been "deep impact"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

Travolta in that film, i can't remember nor am i bothered to check IMDB, shouldn't this be film forum (lol just joking OP)

Harrison Ford in Air Force One (sure in Scary Movie 3 - I think - Leslie Nielsen even acknowledges it :D)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

not only woul he be a class a prez he kick your ass too, "hey osama 1 on 1 lets have you" lol

Come to think of it Morgan Freeman was good too (Deep Impact) and one of the few actors who can then go on to be God (Bruce Almighty) :D

I would go with airforce one, not a bad slugger for an auld man :)

He was pretty good as Jack Ryan too in Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger

(in the books he actually makes it as far as President (Debt of Honor/Executive Orders) and does pretty well there too).

Martin Sheen is great in the West Wing but I really liked Michael Douglas in The American President. Aaron Sorkin, the guy behind the West Wing scripted it so it's not as cheesey as you'd expect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,089 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Michael Douglas is a legend though - still love him in Wall Street.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 337 ✭✭HappyCrackHead

nah.. Alan Alda in Canadian Bacon, most realistic representation.

And John Travolta was in "Primary colours".

Peter Sellers (gets nominated for US President after walking on water) in "Being There."

That comedian from Hotshots. He gets sick in the Japenese prime ministers lap

You do know that his character was a very thinly veiled Bill Clinton?

My choice would definitely be Martin Sheen in West Wing. Bartlett is the MAN! If I can't have him, Morgan Freeman from Deep Impact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

Clearly, but he sold the part well, goes to show he's got a great on screen presence and charisma

that was Leslie Neilson. I think he plays a great President, hell I'd vote for him (or his characters) over Bush any day

EDIT: sorry, I was wrong. it was Lloyd Bridges

    Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove

    Kevin Pollack in Detterence http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0158583/

John Travolta in Primary Colors - Classic Film

Henry Fonda in Failsafe (1964) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058083/

Richard Dreyfuss in Failsafe (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235376/

I agree that guy in 13 days who played JFK was good.

Michael Douglas in the American President

Martin Sheen in the West Wing - Bartlett kicks A**!!

P.S. Geena Davis is RUBBISH as the president in Commander in Chief

Didn't Dubya feature in Fahrenheit 9/11 albeit unwittingly I guess. The best President in a film in the guy from "Independence Day". The President who wins the Georg W. Bush Idiotic award is whoever starred in "Mars Attacks" I think he was a bit of a dope and I nominate him for realism of George W. Bush :D:D

    "Get off my plane"

Worst line ever in a movie. I'm laughing just thinking about it. Trying to decide if it's genius or pure, unadulterated, sh1te.

'cept that he's not playing a President, but rather a Presidential Candidate.

Morgan Freeman for Deep Impact gets my vote, even though the film is seriously dodge.

Bruce Greenwood was excellent in Thirteen Days

    Peter Sellers in Dr Strangelove

    BUT

my pick has to be Anthony Hopkins in Nixon

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 794 ✭✭✭ChityWest

Damien Thorne (Sam Neil) in The Omen III, or Martin sheen in 'Deadzone' (flash/forward scenes). Morgan Freeman was good in deep impact - but for a black president you cant beat Samuel L Jackson - he would have been much more fun in that role.

That got me thinking, in a few years someone is bound to make a film depicting Dubya, I bet they'll get someone like Jim Carey or Adam Sandler to play him :)

What was the name of that movie where Gene Hackman is the president and he kills a prostitute, while Clint Eastwood is watching. God that was rubbish!

Best pres - Lloyd Bridges in Hot Shots, almost too realistic ( he's got a bassett hounds tongue cos his was shot off in the war, Classic!)

Technically he IS the preident at the end of the film, so he did in actual fact portray the president in the film.

Morgan Freeman... and then perhaps Bill Pullman although hearing him speak above a whisper in that film didn't seem right.

What a pile of jingoistic crap that was. Especially the part where the Pres's daughter says to Gary Oldman's baddie: "My father is a great man".
Although it was good the way all the action was claustophobic, inside a small area, just like in the other film the director (Wolfgang Peterson or something I think) made (Das Boot).
I thought Oldman stole it from Ford completley. He can do roles like that in his sleep.
I liked the "Get off my plane" line too.
