Yes, yay, another inter railing thread. :)

Ok, we have just discussed it at length andwe have opted for Zone D in a landslide.
Zone D - Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia.
Thinking of going mid july so we will be back in time to repeat exams if we have to.
16 day ticket but we will spend about three days in the first place before the ticket starts and three days in the last place before it finishes.
Where do you recommend for these two places?

Was thinking of flying to bosnia and going north until poland and then flying home. Then there is the opposite.
Third option being to go to prague, go east and south down to bosnia eventually..
Looking at ticket prices they are pretty similar when you add them up with the bosnia first route being slightly cheapest.
Also, for those that have been to these places, where would you recommend seeing?

Want to start looking into that now. We obviously want to see places like prague, Dubrovnik, Bratislava, Krakow and budapest etc.
We are going to go camping in the Carpathian mountains and that is all we have thought of really doing so far. You know, little places to see in each country. If only we were still going to two zones, dracula's castle will have to wait!

Also for past travellers, what was the exact itinerary that yee brought?
I assume the trains may get boring, although alcohol or general chat will help.
No point in brining books? They would be too heavy I would say. Mp3 player, digital camer and phone would be the only expensive things with me, what do ye recommend with the money situation?
Oh, reminds me, must pick up a digital camera for this...
I'm sure I'm going to have a lot more questions, I just need to think of them!

Anthing that is said really will help out.
I don't like much foods so I imagine I shall be returning from this rather thin but happy.

Croatia (esp around Dubrovnik) has little in the way of trains. Buses are quite cheap (and i'm pretty sure they aren't covered on the interrail pass). Ferries are also an option but buses are probably cheaper but views from the ferry are better. Bosnia is likely to be similar but I'm not sure about that. I know there were quite a few religious types in Dubrovnik when I was there and they did bus trips to Medjegore. Flying into or out of Dubrovnik and having the pass start when you get as far as split or Zagreb might be a good idea.

Cesky Krumlov in Czech is also beautiful and well worth a day or 2 at most.

Do a search here for croatia too for more info.

Bumpety doo as I see the other inter railing thread (: , buying tickets on saturday, should be seven or eight of us. Flying to Croatia, leaving from Prague. Staying three days each in said places.
Any helpful tips etc would be cool.

Are you going ot buy the interrail pass or just pay as you go? I think the later might be cheaper (but I don't know for sure)

To clarify - there are NO trains to Dubrovnik. The line finishes at either Split or Ploce - can't remember which.

    Tips:
Money - ATM card should be fine, but bring some euros in cash and a credit card if possible. Absolutely essential to get a money belt and wear it under your clothes - you'll get used to it. Oh - and don't leave it in Warsaw full of money and passport, tickets etc - take my word for it!

Stuff to bring - 2 pairs of farily light trousers, few pairs of shorts, several T-shirts, 1/2 shirts and a light rain jacket - taht's all you'll need (+ underwear obviously). Good comfortable pair of sandals - you'll be doing plenty of walking. Maybe bring a pair of runners or something in case it rains. Also, make sure you bring some sort of 'travel' clothes wash (probably in a tube) - you'll be glad you did!

Places - Prague, Budapest, etc all great. Would love to go to Sarajevo - it's looking good these days. Would If using trams/buses etc make sure you get the appropriate ticket (+ one for your bag if required!) and stamp it. Many ticket inspectors will target tourists - this is especially true in Bratislava

no advise from me, just more questions. i'm doing a similar trip, starting in Poland, ending up in istanbul, planning on spending most my time in romania, bulgaria, serbia etc. i've heard if your in these countries you don't really get much value out of an interrail ticket. anybody got any experience of this? a lot of posts are mentioning the lack of trains whcih seems to support this idea!

Hey thanks for the replies guys.
Think we are getting the inter rail pass, the price gap shouldn't be significant either way I would imagine?

Thanks Padraig Mor, all great advice, apart from me wearing sandals. :P
