For the 2nd year in a row IrelandOffline were not asked to attend. Tut tut.

    Hi,

The presence of irelandoffline representatives at the conference would be very welcome.

As the obstacles to the supply of internet/broadband are gradually being lifted (although I'm personally convinced there's still much left to do - there will be a talk by ComREG at the conference in relation to this), further adoption will have to be demand-driven. Hence, the focus of the conference this year is very much on the uses of the internet and raising awareness about the benefits of broadband.

I want to highlight that everyone is invited to attend - admission is free.

Although time is tight atm (it's next wednesday) should you want to exhibit at the conference contact the Galway Chamber of Commerce (Contact Maeve on 091 535023)

Thanks and hope to see you there.

    Dimitri

I guess I wasn't sufficiently arrogant about this. IrelandOffline should have been asked to present at this because unlike the rest of the groups presenting we don't have an agenda to distort reality.

Our agenda is to promote the reality and the reality is that the demand argument is just the latest in a long long long long line of excuses. Demand is being used to cover up the fact that the DCMNR played their fiddle while Ireland's broadband future was burning and instead of buckets of water, ComReg passed out petrol soaked firelighters.

Surely it is good to have someone with an opposing view?

Damien, as this conference is organised by the private business sector, you can't expect them going searching for speakers, which they might consider could disturb their positive-outlook, feel-good event. I would not blame them for this. And I think Dimitri's general invitation and position should be welcomed.

I was there on last years event, and they did not kick me out, despite me handing out quite "aggressive" postcards directed at participating ComReg.
I came into contact with a number of interesting persons.

If IOFFL can send somebody, I am sure they'd be welcome and listened to, as much the schedule is at all suited for this type of discussion. Which might not be a lot.
Last year Noel was in and out. And ComReg's Mike Byrne will not have a lot to talk about the bb availability vs demand aspect...But if Mike should try to mislead about broadband availability, as ComReg has done consistently, it would be great if somebody of IOFFL was there to ask the right questions.

I would have thought that Smart was more interested in selling than distorting reality per se.

Will I see anybody from the forum or IOFFL in the surroundings of the posh Galway Radisson tomorrow?
