Lads, I'm locking this thread as I'm not prepared to let it degenerate into an all-out slagging match, as it appears to me that it might.

    Note to joolsveer:
This site is not your personal gallery. Whilst I have no problem in you seeking critique here (in fact I welcome it), the amount of images you are posting here is getting out of hand.
There are plenty of free online galleries* available; you should sign up for one and then post a link here** to your gallery (not for every photo) seeking comments. Many such sites also allow cooments on each image.

    *I would personally recommend www.photo.net
**Here's an example of what you should do: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...p?t=2054920117

I wish to raise a number of questions about the use of the photography forum. It was necessary to open a new thread as the quote above could not be responded to on the existing thread.

I am glad to see a moderator taking an interest in the issue as I feel a lot of abusive comments have been made about me and my work. In the last day or so it had finally petered out to a great extent as the bullies seem to have got tired of their game. It now looks like the bullies have come out winners if they get their wish to silence anyone who does not agree with them.

As I have already said I also contribute to other sites and I have not had the negative reaction there that I have received here.

In light of the comments being made I had a look at the charter and do not believe that I am in breach of it. To reduce bandwith problems I have been posting links to my photographs rather that attaching them to my posts.

Please let everyone know what the rules are and if they apply to everyone.

I think the negative reactions you have had relate more to the amount of photos and manner in wish they are submitted.
You should really try to stick to one thread and provide links to the photos, as it can be quite frustrating if there are a lot of high resolution/large images on one page.

Not quite the same thing, the images may be hosted elsewhere, but because they are so numerous and still load in the thread, they are thereby causing frustration.

I think Samson has a fair point. It would probably be better to post a link to the photos especially when there are so many. For a person on dialup it could be a right pain waiting for the pics to load. For those of us on broadband it doesn't really matter but the majority of people in the country are still on dialup. Dem were the days!

I would certainly agree with this rule as I have a website which is hosted by Siteground in Houston (it gave me a chance to tell them I had a problem). I fear that it would not apply to everyone who wants to post here particularly those who are students.

I believe that there should be clear rules set down in the charter which apply to all who wish to post here. The rules should include allowable file sizes, number of posts per week, number of photographs per post, whether photographs should be attached or hosted elsewhere and demand normal standards of behaviour for interaction.

This would give us a standard to measure against unlike the current situation.

Or, a bit of common cop on could come into play...

Or, a bit of common cop on could come into play...
Exactly, I think common sense should prevail.

Judging by the carryon of a lot of the population it is in very short supply. Just apply it to road deaths this year. I fear that rules which are enforced are essential with the way we are today.

Just checked out ur thread.. I can see what people are saying as there is allot of pics in that thread but i think whats been missed is a sort of progression.. It starts with allot of random n pointless "Holiday Snaps" but towards the end there's som great shots.... Is that not what this forum is for?? Advice etc.. Jool has read what was posted n taken it in...

Common sense is all that is needed.. If there's gonna be allot of pics in the thread it should be mentioned in the title of it.. Also maybe using the thumbnail links instead of full photos for the 56k users, at least i wont take ages to load a page when all the want to do is read some posts...

Still tho... Get Broadband!!!!!!!! problem solved..

Jools, I think most of the people on this forum are generally quite accepting of
other people's work and are, by and large, willing to offer help and constructive
criticism when requested. I think what's happened here is that you seem to
have a stronger appreciation for your own work than other people do. I don't
think anyone would deny you the right to share it with others, but it's not really
appropriate to post 'any old photo' to a forum like this. If you think about it,
I think you'll agree that using this forum to show only the more exceptional
work is in everyone's best interest. We can all learn and maybe improve together,
instead of swamping eachother in day-to-day shots. I admire the way you are sticking
to your principles, but I'd encourage you to be a little more selective about what
you share on this forum. Maybe just ask yourself "has this been seen before?" prior
    to posting it?

I think you have a problem telling the difference between criticism and as you said "abusive comments". Please expand on this.

There is nothing in the charter which sets out what this forum is for. Is it for posting information about equipment or for posting photographs. I chose to believe that photographs could be posted here.

If you take a snapshot of anyone's photographs some will appeal to one or more and some to none. I don't accept that posters on this forum show exceptional photographs - whether that is exceptionally good or bad. I did not post a single photograph with the intention of offending anybody - some members became offensive without any help from me.

    Relax folks.

Joolsveer, to me the main issue seems to be the volume of photos and the fact that this is a general discussion forum.

Wikipedia "FORUM: An Internet forum is a facility on the World Wide Web for holding discussions, or the web application software used to provide the facility".

Posting large volumes of photos is NOT discussion. Perhaps what is needed is a Joolsveer blog.

Wikipedia "BLOG: A weblog (usually shortened to blog, but occasionally spelled web log) is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles (normally in reverse chronological order)........Like other media, blogs often focus on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news. Some blogs function as online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic."

    Only a suggestion ;)

Fair enough man... it doesn't bother me personally.
