Horse Racing Form

hello, first I wanted to say I am new to this forum and to the racing too. If I was not new I would not be here probably. I have been following some races and some horses this year and I do feel like a novice. I read the boards.ie regularly now. And to me the key is in reading the form but it is difficult. I look at a paper - and here it goes: 0004F0 - name of the horse - and a string of numbers and letters is where the fun starts. And this is only one example.
    Can anyone please help out.
Also I have a question about handicapping and about horses taking weight and giving weight. Could you please explain it to me as well?
    Thank you for all posts.

Hi meverly and welcome to the forum. I'm just off to bed so I can't answer all of your questions right now, but please have a look at this thread that fade2black created http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=301268 which explains how to read the cards on the racing post website. Follow the link provided in the first post by fade2black. I really hope this helps you. As regards the form you quoted, 0004F0, 0 means it finished above 9th, they don't say 12th because 12 would look like it finished first and second in a race, F means that it fell. Enjoy the forum :)
