Excel has suddenly started giving me major problems. It started saying that I needed a proplus.msi file. As I have no idea where my original discs are I downloaded the file from the net and pointed the program at it. Now it's telling me I need a officw1.cab which I can't find.

Any ideas on this would be a major help.

tbh, until you find your disc, get OpenOffice. It's handy if you're in a pickle and who knows, you may like it.

    Hi,
You could try doing a system restore, you won't loose documents created but you will loose system changes like install programs since the retore date.

    Undo/uninstall whatever you've changed.

    Thanks for the eyes.

Feylya: Good idea. I'm downloading it now. I find it hard to use to be honest. It's not as intuitive so I'd still like to get my excel going.

BishopLEN: I've tried numerous system restore points to no avail.

Seamus: I haven't used excel in ages so It's hard to know what it is that has caused it. Typical really, all of a sudden you really, really need a program and it just won't work!

    Hi,

Although this sounds ridiculous, try it before dismissing it. It has worked for me and two other people and I still don't know why! It may or may not work for you.

Instead of starting Excel via the usual shortcut on your Start Menu, locate the Excel binary in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\..... and start Excel by clicking on the binary. If you still get the error message then, sorry but it was worth trying. If Excel starts up ok for you, then you should be able to close it down and start it up again with no error from the usual shortcut.

As I said already, it may or may not work but it's worth a try.

    Regards,

    Liam

You are going to need the install disk to fix that error. The cab file its looking for is on the install cd and short of downloading a pirated copy which i am in no way recommending the install cd is the only way to get this file.
