    when bbc ot itv is referred to as fta does this mean it is fta via a freeview box?

    FTA = Free To Air, usually means works on any Satellite Receiver and no card required.

    FTV = Free To View. usually means a specific satellite receiver and a specifically supplied viewing card is required, but no subscription (Sky Digibox in UK)

    Freeview = The trade name of the UK Terrestrial Digital System. Picked up in very much fewer places in the Republic than Analog TV. Nothing to do with Satellite.

    A channel such as C4 and Five are free on Freeview with no card, but are FTV on Satellite. Some Freeview channels are even subscription TV on satelite (More 4)

    All the BBC & ITV regions are FTA on Satellite (any satellite receiver, no card needed).

    ON Freeview you get the "local" BBC and ITV region.

    Both systems have BBC3, BBC4, CBBC, Cbeebies, BBC News 24, BBC parliament, CITV, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 as well as the tradional BBC/ITV
