Black visors. Are they legal?

I know that in the UK tinted motorbike visors are allowed but black visors are banned. Does anyone know the law as it applies here in Ireland?

Afaik, they're banned.

I don't see a massive need for them in any case. You can always carry a pair of sunglasses and throw them on if it unexpectedly becomes sunny.

In the UK any tinted visor other than one marked as 'light tint' is illegal for road use. I'm assuming that the law is similar here.

I wear glasses so sunglasses can be a problem. I got a pair of prescription sunglasses but the helmet really messed them up. How affective are tinted visors as a replacement for sunglasses?

I wear glasses too - i have an iridium visor which is great for really bright days but you will be cursing yourself if you got stuck with it at night where it would be useless.

They're brilliant!! because if it gets dull you're not stuck with the sunglasses on. My helmet has a sunvisor that flips out of the way so I have the best of both worlds!

I got one of those too a Nolan 102 classic is only €250 and you get the flip up sun visor. You get blank side plates to put on the sides if you want to take it off.

it is legal in Ireland to wear a dark visor

Afaik they are legal, as from march to october I always wear mine.

I went through 2 checkpoints over the weekend with an iridium visor and the only thing said was "motor on lad"

was caught out about a month back in heavy rain, it can make it almost impossible to see out of the thing

Thats the prob I had with my last helmet - a Roof Boxer. I like the Caberg one because you can flip up the tinted visor when you don't need it and you don't get caught out - doh it's sunny i'm blinded or doh it's getting dull i can't see!!

havnt tried a boxer, always thought that the ridge under your eyes would block my vision a good bit so was afraid to give it a go
