USB-Firewire Adapter

I'm pretty sure this won't work, but anyway. I recently got a pack of USB/Firewire cables and adapters from a friend. Two of the adapters in this pack convert from a USB connector to a Firewire connector. Now, I was fairly sure that you couldn't plug a USB device into a Firewire port, or the other way round, as the protocols are different.

Am I wrong, or is it possible? If not, what would be the point of this adapter can anyone say?

There is a very limited use for such devices but I dont think they are meant for general usage.

I've seen a DV camera cable with firewire for the camera and USB on the other end to plug into a PC and some adapters for USB/firewire for the iPod but their all pretty much specialized.

For doubting Thomas over in the corner there. Used my scanner so sorry about the quality.

One is 6-pin and the other is 4-pin Firewire connection. The USB side is an A male on both.

I thought they were probably for very specific devices or custom jobs. There's also USB-RJ11 and RJ45 adapters in the pack. There's a few handy cables in it though, and an RF45 crossover adapter which is very nice.
