$200 Fo on tribeca, I win a medium pot on the 2nd hand and have 3k chips. (2k starting stack). Blinds are 20 40. I make it 200 utg with 99. Some idiot (im guessing here, have never seen him before) goes all in for 2k. Folded back to me. Call or fold! 40 Player left (of 40!) top 6 get money

quite a few hands ahead (or 50/50) of you , you don't need the chips, i would fold..

now if you were short stacked it would be straight in...

You were actually the player who went all-in for 2k, with AKs and he called and you didn't improve.

No, I don't know how he could call with 99 in that spot either.

Fold. Is this not the notorious move of someone who is incapable of playing TT and JJ properly, or somebody who *hates* seeing flops with AA or KK. More often than not, in my experience, it has been something along those lines.

No it wasnt me, I think moving in there with Ak is a donkey move. 360 in the pot and you think im betting 2k with a hand that will only get called if im behind

having played this tourney alot i have to say the standard is truely ****e.
the filed is generally very short and by genreally playing very tight you will often make it in to the teens with the starting stack alone.
what this means is you can deffo afford to pass 50/50 so early in a tourney in hopes of finding a bigger edge to get your moeny in.
this assumes you are 50/50 and villain does not have TT+ here which is very possible.

I think this is a fold, but only because there's a chance you're a big dog. If you had very reliable notes on this guy to say that this is how he always plays AK/ AQ but not biggish pairs then it's a call. I used to think that racing was bad in tournaments, but now I reckon you should take them on if you know it's a race situation.

I like to race but I also like to fold this hand.

personally, i fold here. firstly cos im a tight enough player and secondly cos i like pushing my chips in with 99, not calling with them.

He is never pushing with AA KK QQ and probably not even JJ

I reckon a lot of the time your going to find 77 88 or obviously a race, if he is any kind of player the only hand he plays this way that has you crushed is TT.

if its level 1 and you still have 1k back Im going to call, if you win you can start to dominate if you lose you still have room to move.

Great for your image if you win it as well, you can pretty much guarantee anyone pushing against you for a while after that will have it.

just to add, you need to double early on in that 6k tourny. I'd nearly consider calling to save time!

Ok firstly let me say that my read is that this is AK about 90% of the time. A small % of the time its JJ, a small % of the time its a lower PP and once in a blue moon its AA/KK/QQ. I think the high and low pps kind of cancel each other out.

If you think that theres a good chance you are up against QQ/JJ then its a totally different scenario, but for me when a player moves all in like that i think he has AK.

So given that, I dont see why I should fold here. A pair vs aK Is not really a coin flip. Im a favourite. I would never call with AK here. If I call I am guaranteed an edge on most of my chips - If I happen to lose the hand and go out shortly afterwards I can just open another table. I havent lost anything,

So you called and he had KK? I think you should call though.

I was in a similar situation, I had 88, was thinking of raising, when a guy to my right raised about a third of a stack in the kinda way that the rest is about to follow, I put him on AK, normally I'd probably call, but my confidence was knocked by a few unlucky beats in the last few hands, and the guy to my left looked very eager to call. So reluctantly I fold, thinking if an 8 is on the flop I'm going to go mad. Two callers.

Flop. 8 8 10. Agh. I feel like I'm gonna be sick!! sure enough he pushes with ak gets a caller, and manages to get a straight.
