Working with Serendipity

I implemented Serendipity on a tennis club website recently. What I want to do is a simple SQL select query to bring back the last blog entry [to try to keep the homepage up-to-date as it were].

The query itself is not the issue. It's how to plug it into the php template files.

If anyone has experience messing with Serendipity let me know....

As an aside, why the hell does the homepage on that tennis website display the images and text incorrectly on Firefox and not IE. Can't seem to spot any code that's forcing the display to go all firefox wonky....

    Cheers
