Wireless router probs

    Hi folks,

I have a Belkin Wireless G notebook card and a Linksys Broadband G Router.
My problem is really annoying, the connection drops for 15 seconds, then reconnects. This happens constantly! It only stays reconnected for a couple mins and drops again.
Doesn't seem to be any clashes with IP addresses (as far as I know), and connection is fine if i plug directly into the cable.

    AAaggghhhh...

    Any ideas?

    Dave

I have a similiar problem with a similiar setup. Belkin USB G notebook adapter and a Linksys WRT54G router.
Although the connection drops fairly intermittantly. Some times once an hour other times once in three hours....I am generally a static distance from the wireless router.
I am using the Windows Wireless Management software and not the Belkins as I had issues setting the Belkin stuff up for WEB with the Linksys router.
I put it down to the Belkin USB network dongle as I had now issues with a similiar linksys one before.....
From what I have read and heard since this may not be too far off the mark.
It doesnt bother me too much bit I cant help you although if I were to try something it would be to assign a static IP to your laptop and see if you have the same issues-havent tried this myself...

have you tried upgrading the software/driver for the belkin? updating the firmware for the router?

Sorry, I made a typo there it should be WEP instead of WEB.
More details are on the link in my post.
To be honest I dont think using the Windows Wireless Management software will make any difference to you as I am using it but I still have the same issue.

Try the above suggestion. But I've found with my experience of large wireless networks with a variety of wireless cards that Belkin cards gave the worst performance. Where other cards had no problem connecting, Belkins just wouldn't pick up a signal. I'd avoid them like the plague.

Beyond making sure the Linksys router is using the latest firmware (get it from linksys.com) and that you have latest drivers for the Belkin card, not much else I can think of tbh.

So i got this one for free (it was brand new), is it worth spending 40 quid and picking up a drifferent one?
Bearing in mind this isn't a large network. Just me in a 3 bed house.

Well if it sorts your problem then it's worth it! ;)

See if anyone you know has a card you can borrow to test out and see if it works ok.

As above, Belkin performance has to be questioned at times, have heard the same form the Wireless cards..... Try different brand and see if the same issues are happining at least then you know if you have a conflict somewhere else or that it is the Belkin card..

No it's not worth it if you can get this card to work.
