Which Bit Tracker?

Right, BitTorrent stopped working on me a few days back.

After at least an hour of investigation, I gave up. It appears many other people have had the same problem with BitTorrent and no amount of fiddleage fixes it.

I switched over to BitComet, and all seems generally fine. However, it's a little flakey and not as solid as BitTorrent. You could 'fire and forget' with BitTorrent, BitComet needs a bit of babysitting. I might be on the hunt for another Bit client again soon.

What Bit Trackers would people recommend and why?

A tracker is the web-server that relays details of the torrent to the various clients.

I assume you want to know people's preferred clients?

I generally use uTorrent. Its lightweight, doesn't use much in the way of system resources, plenty of options in settings.

Azureus is another good client - its more demanding on resources though.

For once i agree with RE*AC*TOR, uTorrent is the way to go.

Sorry, only kidding. I'm just quite crabby today for some reason.

I like azureus. As mentioned above, its pretty heavy on resources - RAM in particular. I'd use uTorrent but it apparently has problems working with nVidia firewall.

I had used Azureus, but it's resource usage was quite erratic, and after somebody recommended uTorrent, I've never looked back.

So I second, or third, RE*AC*TOR's recommendation for uTorrent.

Everything has trouble working with nvidia firewall - i've never known such a terrible piece of software. I got an a new nforce mobo recently an installed the nvidia firewall. It caused me problems with any program using multiple tcp/ip connections. Emule, utorrent, official bittorrent client etc.

I would recommend dumping it - I'm using the free version of zone alarm - much better.

azureus runs fine on my downloading pc..... a celeron 333 with 292Megs of ram. It's all good, and it's particularly good for torrents with only a few seeds.

I used Azeurus for a while but slowed my computer down noticibly whenever it was running so I eventuallly gave up on it.

Got into uTorrent about 2months ago and it's much better. Seems to do everything Azeurus did but more streamlined. I'd definetly reccomend it.

reactor, nvidia firewall's been working perfectly for me. I've been using it for nearly a year now and utorrent's the only program that's had problems with it.

I've had trouble with multiple p2p applications with it - generally its most noticeable when trying to shut the program down - it will hang for up to a couple of minutes before finally closing.

Perhaps it is unique to my configuration - but getting rid of it, and installing zone alarm fixed the probelm.

I had Azureus but found it slow and resource intensive so moved to uTorrent which is good but recently when its running my web connection grinds to a halt even though uTorrent aint using near my bandwidth capacity.

I have an Abit AN8 Fatal1ty mobo and I get the nVidia firewall warning message when I open uTorrent. I thought I had turned nVidia firewall off but am now not sure - anyone know how to remove it or completely disable it (doesn't appear in Add Remove Programs list)?

Using Azureus for about two years now, I've used utorrent but in fairness the plugins for Azureus just win me over every time.

I've a deadicated machine so resources don't bother me too much :)

I was one of those Azureus users who dclared it to be the best client ever and defended it at all times against the rest. While it's true that it's got some of the best features I didn't realise that uTorrent could do everything that Azureus could but using a fraction of the CPU/RAM.
