    Hey all.

Anyone know the costs associated with getting a J1? I'm going over to America for 3 weeks to cousins and was checking it out to see if I should bother.

does that include flights too? i don't think it will be worth it for 3 weeks, will it? i've all the flights booked with AA anyway.

Why would you want to get a visa for a 3 week trip ?

You can get into the US for 90 days on teh Visa Waiver Program.

If your flights are booked then there's not much point in getting a J1 - since the J1 company will just make you buy your flights through them.

It'll cost €1000 to fly to New York, including insurance and visa. And you'd need to book it very soon if you're going, since you have to have embassy interviews, etc

there could be a possibility of me doing some bits of work over there with my aunt or uncle, but i don't think it's worth getting a j1 for just 3 weeks. are there any others programmes that allow you to work but don't cost as much?

if you are only going over for three weeks, have paid for your flights and are going doing a bit of work for relations, i would not bother with any visa except a holiday one. if you could get paid cash-in-hand you're sorted.

You can stay in the US for 90 days without a visa but that doesnt allow you to work, I would advise against working. If you were caught somehow you would be barred for life most likely.

No its a ban for 10 years. And youd be a fair stupid lad to be caught seen as there are 11 million illegals working in America, youd most likely have to do something like walk up to a cop and tell him you were working illegally. Then again it would depend on the cop as to what they would do in that situation. If the lads going over just for 3 weeks dont bother working just drink, get laid and be merry, the U.S. is a brilliant country there is always plenty to do. Both day and night ;)
