Sky+ Installation Question

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice. My new house is nearing completion and I'll be looking to get Sky+ installed (possibly even Sky HD if funds allow).

Our TV is going to be in the middle of a wall and I've already asked for a TV point (along with phone and power sockets) to be put on the wall where the TV will be.

From what I've read here SKY+ needs two inputs so should I get the builder to put 2 TV points in where the TV will be or should I just leave it to the Sky installer? If I get the builder to do it is there any particluar type of cable that I should get him to use?

I just want to make sure the install is as neat as possible - no leads running across the room or down from the ceiling!

The house is a bungalow - if that makes any difference.

    Many thanks.

CT100 cable. Not something like CT100. In fact don't trust the builder at all. Get ducts installed big enough for FOUR coax cables and a nylon draw cord installed.

Satellite LNB signals do not work well with TV outlets or indeed many F-connector wall plates intended for Cable TV

Do yourself a big favour and get a specialist in now to run the cables, remember a builder does not have to make it work long after he's gone.

    Thanks for the quick replies!

So basically I need to use CT100 cable and definitely don't get the builder to do it!

How would I go about finding someone to install the cables for me? Are we talking about the local SKY installer or should I ask get someone from a TV/Satellite shop (The house is in Robertstown, Kildare)?

    Thanks.

Well said Tony, I was in a situation today with a customer, I was to install sky+ at a house in Courtown unfortunatly the tv was at an internal wall with only one coax cable being fed with a terrestrial aerial at that tv, the fire place in was in the way also the nearest phone point was a hall and another room away. The house is only 3 years old, when the customer contacted the builder he said its up to the sky installer to sort it out. so where does one go from there.

Local tv/satellite shop definitely, they may also be able to hook you up with sky also. Do it as soon as you can as the closer the building is to finishing the harder it is to a good job.

Yeah its amazing, does anyone think of calling in a plumber to hook up the taps when the plasterers have finished. I'm loathe to blame others when I cant do a particular job but 99% of the time this happens when builders/electricians are involved with cabling houses.

Thanks Tony/scaller/watty for all the advice. I'm glad I asked :)

Will ring around a few TV shops in the area and see if they can help.

If anyone has any recommendations of someone in Kildare who could install the cables it'd be appreciated.

    Thanks.
