On the other hand, in the Civil War, the Republicans did not attempt to set up a Leinster Republic or a Connaught Republic, because it's easy to see where nationalism has always shone brightest. Hence the reason the War of Independence was most successfully fought on the roads and railways and fields around Cork and Kerry, while the rest of the country looked on, and Kilmichael is always remembered as the turning point in favour of the Irish side.
