Looks set to be a great gig.

    However it is over 18s.
I just want to know how strict TBMC is for things like this,
just so you dont think im 12 trying to get in, i'm 17 and ill only be a few months shy of 18 when the gigs on, im quite tall also and dont really have problems getting served, but if im asked for id im ****ed...

In short, what are the chances of being asked for ID, or being told to piss off?

they are strict enough.......I'm not the right person to answer really....I'm old....but there's always questions about the metal gigs and usually ends up people saying they are strict enough and often ask for proper ID.....

    tickets still around?

since its over 18s i could prob get one at the door tho i suppose yeah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

that's the best policy alright, as long as it doesn't look like selling out, at least that way all you loose is the fare into town......

My friend has a ticket but just realised the other day that she can't go so I reckon she'll be selling it if you're interested?

you were ID'd at Dragonforce Dave

    they just didn't care q:

The Music Centre is a mixed bag. I've been there a couple of times over the past year and I can safely say the amount of times I've been asked for ID have been minimal. It's certainly a safer place to go to than Whelans or The Village.

Oh yeah... had forgotten that. :p That was a weird night. They gave wristbands to those with ID, so tehy could buy booze. those of us without, got no wristbands, but were too poor for booze anyway. Any other time, haven't even been asked, but wristband situation hasn't arisen again either.

It really depends on what bouncers you get and theres no way to be sure they will be the same ones that someone else got in the venue or that they will be in the same mood. Most will be more alert if they think the gig will attract more underage people. I wouldnt have tagged Dresden Dolls as such a gig.

To be honest they probably will ID you...
i was going to see a local (completely unknown) band there with some friends of mine, and they were ID'd. They were actually 18 but had no ID on them and there was no letting them in or changing the bouncers' minds. I was really surprised.
Before that, i would have agreed with the post above, that it depends on whether the band in question pulls a lot of underage fans.. but now i'm not so sure!
Hope you do get in though, it'll be an amazing show! ;)

i doubt they'll be expecting too many kiddies, think its one of those gigs where i'm not getting a ticket and buying one off an infuriated 15yr old for half price hehe

I'm really looking forward to this gig- hope they play plenty of old stuff as well as the new album :)

Just back. Great show even if there were a lot more kids than I expected (Id previously stated I didnt think that thered be that much of an underage interest.. boy was I wrong.).

Sound was fantastic and the opening songs were practically note perfect to the cds. So much so that I was starting to suspect a backing track right up until Amandas stool collapsed dramatically stopping "Backstabber" about 15 seconds in. Should be some interesting photos of that! Her voice did get more hoarse as the night went on and I suspect she had a cold but it didnt ruin it at all.

The drummer was insanely good and congratulations to whoever did the lighting which made him look like Goro from mortal kombat playing the drums. The opening to Half Jack was epic and reminded me of a John Bonham solo at times.

Good crowd interaction even though the continued heckling from the teenage kids (take of your clothes, marry me etc) got on everyones nerves (including the bands) after a while. Though whoever suggested "Springtime for Hitler" as an antiwar song should take a bow. Also I feel sorry for the people who dressed up because by the end of the gig they must have been half dead with the heat. Please please please TBMC invest in proper air conditioning.

Anyway Id definetly catch them again if they float through here again.

Yeah it was an excellent gig, not long back from it myself. Amanda and Brian were both amazing for the entire set. Even when her voice faltered you couldn't blame her because she was putting her all into it and she recovered brilliantly too. They are even better live than on CD if ya ask me. At first the shouting was OK and they took it well but when the band want to play please Shut The **** Up! in future.
Overall nothing could ruin that gig, absolutly, positively, bloody great.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,686 Mod ✭✭✭✭melekalikimaka

yeah the kiddies deserved a smack a few times, but indeed nothing could ruin it. slits tomorrow too, this is a good week

Normally I wouldn't give out about underagers as i know how tough it can be to see a band you like but when you repeatedly hear "Oh my God Do you think they can hear my on stage? She HEARD ME SHE HEARD ME" It leaves me with no sympathy for when i see them getting turned away the next time.

The gig however was amazing, i never knew a drum kit and piano could get so loud! Ending the set with truce was a great call as well. And I loved the cover of War Pigs (rivals the lips cover of it i think) and Old Amsterdam... ain't heard that song in years!

As much as I enjoyed the gig last night, ive never been more annoyed with a crowd, but, i try not to focuse entirlely on that aspect of the night, as it was one of the best gigs ive ever seen. They were awesome! Hope theyll come back soon

Great Gig. Pity about the crowd and venue. The two girls on the balcony who were shouting and clapping during the slower songs were fairly annoying. They deserved a good hidding!

It was absolutely wonderful... In fact, I'm struggling to think of a better gig that I've attended! Shame about the audience though...

Amanda did a great unaccompanied rendition of "Wind that Shakes the Barley". It gave me goosepimples. Thrilling.

was a good enough night, though i thought her voice wasn't good enough to do "The WInd that Shakes the Barley"

It was an excellent gig, and my gratitude to the tall guy who let me stand in front of him.

I got a hug from Amanda \o/ The Brigade was a bit of a sham, not many people knew what we were doing and due to lack of music and space Piste and I just wound people up with our tinfoil keys after a while. I think that the girl with the Faustian cookies did well though.

I don't mind shouting at the band too much, it gets a bit of banter going, but when it turns into heckling like when Amanda was about to sing The Wind That Shakes the Barley and when she came out for the encore, it makes me want to gag people.

    Really great gig.
Those idiots in the crowd couldn't ruin it at all

I would definitely go see them again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'd see them again in a heartbeat, but yeah, the crowd needed to know a bit of moderation, especially for an act that has to compete with them for volume like the Dolls did. Doing that **** at a metal gig is grand, as they'll just ****ing drown you out, but at a show like that, people need to be a little more controlled. Zounds and I were the old men, we missed the supports doing our Brigade thang, but it was fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭Sean7

These underagers eh, one of the girls I was there with asked for ID, she didn't have any but they let her in anyway. Now she's 24 so it's OK she was probably flatered if anything (until the bouncer said "yeah you look old" or something like that) but if they kept up that policy everyone could get in. As for hecklers, screw 'em. I was farther back for this gig than I normally am at gigs so I could hear them but they didn't annoy me too much. As said before, banter is fine but when the band wanna play, you stop. So sayeth The Great Gig Guidebook of 1578AD (copies in your local library). But seriously nothing could ruin that gig as I'm sure you all agree. And as for wind that shakes the barley I thought she done a good version of it consideriing what she puts her voice through during a gig.

    Quoted for truth.

The gig was so amazing, I didn't think Brian was such a performer but he completely blew me away during "Missed Me"!
    BrianmakingyetANOTHERface.jpg

Amanda took falling off the chair really well too :)
    Amandabreakschair.jpg

The covers they did were so fabulous, especially Brian in "Pierre" had me laughing my head off!
I met Amanda before the gig when we were setting up our brigadiering stuff, I gave her a birthday card I made her (cos she turned 30 on Sunday) and she gave me a big hug and a Kiss ^_^
    MeAineAmanda.jpg
That's Me, Liquorice and Amanda there

After the gig I got my ticket and poster signed and Brian blew me a kiss which I took a pic of ^^ and I told Amanda she had a really pretty smile :)

God it was sucha good night last night, best birthday present ever!

I didn't notice any annoying children, though I have to say that the amount of people taking pictures got a bit ridiculous. Constant flashing and waving mobiles throughout the show.

    Great gig though.

I saw you lurking outside after the gig, but you disappeared before I had a chance to talk to you. It would be really fantastic if they played EP- I'll be keeping my fingers crossed!

ps:we heard some people say the dresden dolls are not supposed to be friendly. Thats bull****, they were lovely to us, especially brian the drummer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

Both Brian and Amanda were lovely! I've never heard anything about them not being friendls :S

I really liked Chuzzle! Really good music to Dance to! Were I over 18 and not studying for exams I would come along to Whelans but unfortunately I cannot :(

And why the name change? I love the name Chuzzle!

I liked some of your songs especially the first one (after The Beatles). The structure reminded me alot of Glosoli by Sigur Ros. However in the later songs I felt your sound was mixed a bit off.

By any chance were you thrown on stage alot earlier than you anticipated because it looked like youd been given no time to prepare (evidenced by the onstage tuning).

Will have to see you at another show sometime though because you guys seemed good but the circumstances werent the best for you I thought.

Also saw your car clamped outside after the gig. Nasty.

I wasn't a fan of you I must say. An "eccentric" stage act does not a good band make.

As for the Dresden Dolls being friendly, Amanda was highly stressed when I had a (very) brief chat with her so I'm not taking that as being representative of her usual attitude. Mainly because I know from several people that she's a dear.
