What are your 5 favorite bands which you consider to have a punk edge to any degree? this does not mean your favorite bands have to be punk bands, i'm just looking for your favorite punk style bands, easy eh?

i dont want this to turn into a "teh band aint Punx En-Uff!!!" thread - this is personal to each person.

i know its hard to keep it to 5 and personally my favorites change on a weekly basis but you can always edit as you see fit :D

mine right now, in no particular order:

    Operation Ivy
    Nofx
    Stiff Little Fingers
    Dead Milkmen
    Bad Religion

I felt exactly like that when I first listened to it. But a few days I started listening to it and the 2nd 2 songs, "Downtown Depravity" and "Kerbstones" are ****ing brilliant IMO now. The first 2 are still pretty good aswell.

Yeah I prefer the last two tracks. They were great live in Belfast when me and Janer went up. Don't really care if they're original or not, they still RAWK :)

heh, I take it you'll be in Voodoo on Thursday for runnin riot then Born... ?
Saw the Opressed in Frankfurt before Christmas. Can't remember too much of their set.... due to beer, but I don't think they'd be one of my favourites. Got stations of the crass and penis envy LPs in borderline the other week but still haven't had a decent listen. Only got runnin' riot in 84 coz of the Belfast band tbh, although it seemed to be a pretty good record from the few times I've listened to it.

    :D

They're the type of band that its just scary to think how they got a record deal. Myself and a mate laughed a good 5 minutes-straight after seeing their video. They're not even marketable at the very least!! Why ANY record company would want them is truly baffling!!

I like my girl fronted music

I did always prefer the female voice when it comes to singing, PJ Harvey, Kim Deal, Tanya Donelly and Kristin Hersh too ;) I do listen to male fronted bands too though: New York Dolls, Velvet Underground. Most male-fronted punk is too threatening for me though

Edit: Incidently, it's this sense of feeling threatened and unsafe which comes accross in the music of PJ harvey, Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill which I identify with.

Music is a window to the soul and people listen to music they can identify with, thus a lot of punks can identify with the sense of righteous, anti-authoritarian anger that is at the heart of punk music. other people attracted to other music for the same reasons: They can identify with it.

I don't think there's any call to be sarcastic about the music I identify with.

Actually, I wouldn't be sarcastic about or slag off anyones taste in music as this is their soul you're slagging off and being sarcastic about, and I've never met anyone who enjoys that
