    Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out here. As of yesterday my PC started shutting down when it reached the login screen, it showed a series of numbers: Stop 0x000000be
    0x080503b10
    0x005031221
    0xbaabfac8
    0x0000000b

Attempt to write to read only memory.

I did a lot of research on line but to no avail, tried all the usual stuff first, unplugged all peripherals, pulled out memory one at a time (2x512 dimms) took out new tv card I installed and reseated graphics card but no joy.
yesterday I used ghost to reinstall old ghost of c drive and the machine booted up and kept working but this morning it failed to boot again.

Using ghost I can access all the drives ( 1 250g sata which I've partitioned into 4) so today I copied all the files I needed off into a removable HDD) thank god for norton ghost or I'd have lost 2 weeks worth of work!!

Anybody got a clue whats happening or been through this? seems a common problem judging by what I've seen online, dont want to do a full reinstall unless I have to and since the reinstall using a ghost image didnt work I dont hold much hope in it anyway.

    My machine spec is;

    Asus delux mobo
    2x 256 ram
    point of view nvidea 6800gfx
    amd x2 3800 (or 4200 cant remember)
    happague wintv card
    250g sata drive
    winxp home ed

    thanks in advance

I had a problem similar to that before!! It was bad Ram!! I got the memory test from the microsoft website that confirmed this and got new ram and all was fine!! As far as I can see it can't dump what is in the memory cos it has one or two bad blocks!!

    Thanks Jonny24ie,

I'll try that memory checker from microsoft, it runs from boot up?, I was thinking ram but for both dimms to fail seemed unlikley to me and I started up the pc with each dimm on its own and it failed to boot, but I'll definatly check it out,

    thanks again

The test has been running on 4th pass now but no failures, so i guess that rules out the memory , thanks for the info anyway.

Found this info for those who may get this error too:

Right its def a driver error, I reinstalled a new ghost image I made yesterday and it boots up again, I'm desperatly trying to remember what prog I installed that could have caused it but I had to reinstall so many progs and drivers it could be any of them. At a guess I'd say it was system mechanic as that was the newest file i installed..ironically I installed it to check what could be f**king up my machine. Anyway its running again I'll update any info if it changes for the benifit of anyone who may get this problem.
