Doubtful. You probably have a caller ID, but showing as "unknown caller" or something similar? I would keep a log of the number of times the person has called. Also I googled this info here.

Customers who contact the Malicious Calls Bureau are counselled on how to deal with malicious or nuisance calls, offered a change of telephone number if appropriate, or in more serious cases, recommended to contact the Gardai. On request from the Gardai, call traces are instigated directly from the Bureau. The Bureau is operated by twelve trained staff and can be contacted on Freefone 1800 689 689 between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, or 1800 475 475 for 24 hour recorded advice and information.

Think theres also a box you can get from eircom which sits between your phone and the line and can override callerid if its withheld. I could be completely wrong on that so you may want to talk to eircom. They will have better info on how to handle it.

Tell your mum to keep a whistle beside the phone. Next time she gets a call, she blows real hard on the whistle, it'll take the ear off the caller (and wake the house, but it'll soon put a stop to the calls).

better off just hanging up, if they get no response they will lose interest, having a whistle makes them know it annoys you and that they have upset your normal activities. Just say hello? no answer just hang up, no "f-off you sicko", no response, no kicks. if she recognises them just hang up immediately.

Has your mother got a rape alarm? Set it off into the phone when the pest calls. He won't ring back.

the procedure for finding out who's prank calling:

    1. go to gardai and tell them

    2. they throw the report in the bin

    3. repeat
