Does WEEE take-back have to be at the store that the old item was bought?

    This is from the leaflet WEEE, the Environment and the consumer
    • Retailers are required by law to take back waste electrical goods and electronic equipment from customers free of charge.
    • Take back is on a one-for-one basis only and the appliance being returned must be of a similar type or have performed the same function as the new item purchased. For example, retailers are not obliged to accept a fridge here the consumer has purchased a toaster.
    • Where goods are bought over the counter, retailers must take back the old product in-store either at the time of sale or within a maximum of 15 days of the date of sale, provided the consumer can provide proof of purchase.

    It doesn't explicitly say so, but it seems to imply that the old product must have been bought in the store that you are buying the new item from. Is this the case?

    Well it t doesn't spell it out but it seems obvious that is the case;

    Found it very handy last year getting shot of a fecked ancient telly and fridge.

    What it means is:
    You buy a fridge in DID, bloke comes out, leaves the new fridge, and takes away the old fridge that you bought in Powercity 10 years ago..
    You buy a video in Currys over the counter, and you hand back your old video, which you bought in power city 15 years ago, to the bloke in the shop.:D

    Zactly. You do not need to have bought the old item in the store where you are returning it to.
