What boot order have you selected in the BIOS?
If you are using a SATA drive did you need to install and extra drivers before you installed XP (press F9 to install other drivers I think)

Clicking noise is sometimes a sign of a faulty HD download & run the SeaTools software on Seagates website and see if it says anything is wrong with the HD.

If it gets the all clear....

Are you running the latest bios for the motherboard ?

Are you overclocking if so go back to the normal values ?

    Reset the CMOS

    Re-seat components plugged into motherboard

Remove HDD and DVDRW plus any other non-essential devices and see if it freezes in the bios

Check the motherboard make sure there are no shorts

Use Memtest+ to test the RAM in case of a faulty DIMM

Trial & error - replace components such as graphics card, HD etc with any spares you have and see if they work or the problem persists.

Double check all your connections and change the SATA/IDE cables as well to see if anything happens.
