Does CDWOW stuff tend to get nailed for custom duty? I have to get two Charmed box sets @ €58 odd euro delivered and am wondering if I will get nailed for custom duty even if I order and get both delivered separately?. Anyone have experience of this?. I could get both series 5 & 6 on play.com for €139ish delivered which I assume would be cheaper than if I get stung for CDWOW custom duty?. (posted here as most CDWOW info is generated here)

I have never had to pay any duty on stuff from CD Wow - AFAIK the price includes VAT and therefore duty is not an issue. The price you see on checkout is the price you pay - nothing else.

It's been a while since I ordered a box set off CDWOW, but if my memory serves me correctly the last couple I ordered were posted from Sweden, so no possible problems with customs or VAT

Im assuming that because stuff gets shipped from hong kong or outside the EU at the very least that any VAT is local and does not satisfy the EU or Irish VAT or duty obligations. I have heard in this forum of An Post intercepting hong kong / usa postage and then issuing a customs bill payable prior to delivery plus an administration fee for themselves, all of which would tot up.

cdwow and play items are ALWAYS shipped separately. I never had a problem but mine have always been low value. You are allowed up to about €22 and €45 if marked as a gift. cdwow can be posted from anywhere. I order on the HK site and it gets sent from the UK and vice versa.

I've actually had stuff from play/cdwow shipped together a few times, always fairly small items e.g. books/dvds though.
Usually my stuff seems to ship from UK, but I only ever buy from cdwow.ie,cdwow.com and play.com, not their Hong Kong sites.

P.S. Never had to pay customs on anything from them.

P.P.S. CDWoW are taking for ever to ship lately

as in you got several items in the one box? with their totted up value on the box?

I have never heard of this before. I got about 18dvd in a single day from play before! all separate. there were some sites in the US where people specifically asked and paid for separate postage but got it bundled and were stung for customs. On that thread people mentioned how play and cd-wow always send separately.

I bought something on cdwow just today reply said.

i think custom duty has to do with stuff from the US. i've bought a PC from overclockers, never got hit by duty. bought stuff from Amazon's US site, which somehow ships it stuff from germany, never had a problem. bought some jackets from US and got hit big time.

You don't pay vat on anything shipped within the EU, it only outside EU that you will have to pay VAT

items are shppied from their warehouse in hong kong to europe, then shipped from europe to ireland

Therefore the OP could be hit with 1. Duty and then 2. VAT on that total (sum Goods+Duty+Vat) if the stated value on the green customs label exceeds €22 .

The revenue explains it ALL here

Search for "de minimis" or "small packages"

So the answer to the original post is YES

shortys94 is right , I know the guy who overseas the irish operations of music trading online aka cdwow.ie and i remember him talking about how they now have to get around this .

All net packages which exceed the customs and vat treshholds are sourced within europe , to my knowlege he said they have two huge warehouses out of sweden and luxembourg to cover console games and dvds etc

So what you pay at checkout is defo the price you pay and you should have no customs worries.
