don't quote me on this but i think japan using the same power as use 220v and it's only the americans that use the fecked up 110v or whatever.

all you should need is a 2 to 3 pin plug converter.

how about a usb ds charger? that might work...

Bit too much bother unless you're at a PC constantly.
Just a regular pin adaptor should suffice.

Thanks, all. After looking around the web for a few hours last night, I found this:

    http://forum.lik-sang.com/showthread.php?t=11656

which seems to state that I need a stepdown and travel adapter (we're the same as UK, right?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

They have an adapter specially for the Lite for $5:

    http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=278&products_id=9039

That's the UK version, which is the same as Ireland.

How much does the Lite come out to after customs and shipping? I'm really curious about this. Anyone successfully import one yet?

Yeah. Anyone import yet ? I was gonna buy one from liksang.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

Other forum posts (I think UK customers on the lik-sang forums) lead me to suspect that I might get screwed, so I bought one yesterday from a supposed UK seller on eBay.

Anyone got ideas on the customs and importy charges? I've been about to get one for about a week now and want to find out before I place an order ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭hairball

aye, i 'd be interested in hearing this as well

I've bought games from play-asia.com and I know people who've bought games off liksang with no problems from customs.

Remember the box for the lite is pretty small and it's light, which makes it look a little less suspicious. And it's all a lottery whether your package will get picked and hit with import duties!

I'm ordering my lite from liksang when I get paid this month.

For the power adaptor just go to the evil empire, that is Game, and buy a GameBoy Micro power supply, that should do the trick, if anyone out there has a lite just have a look, should be the same small socket as the micro has, not the chunkier one the DS and GBA SP have, when I imported a jap DS way back when I just used my SP adaptor to recharge it.

Apparently not; according to Eurogamer it's a different plug:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63356
the power connector is different to all Nintendo's previous handhelds (including the recent GB Micro, although the two appear similar in photographs). Those importing a Lite will need a step-down transformer to charge the Lite, and those waiting for the UK model will need to set aside yet another plug socket - at least until somebody does another of those handy USB charge cables.

I just got my Japanese DSlite. It sure is purty. The guy I got it from on eBay included a step down convertor 220-110 for nothing free gratis, and it's happily charging away right now (I tried the convertor in work first, just to make sure it wouldn't blow all the fuses in my house :D)

corblimey, any chance of a link to that ebay seller? would you recommend him? cheers

This is the guy that I used. I paid £14 for delivery to Ireland, and it arrived in 3 working days. Not too shabby.

Sorry about my ropey piece of advice on the power adaptor, I shall bow my head in shame.....

you'd wanna see the difference in the screens especially with mk - unreal. the original ds should have had this design - I hate iterative consoles especially being an early adopter :/

I've only been playing AC:WW on mine since I got it (curse my "just one more thing" attitude) but the difference between it on the Lite and the "Heavy" is tremendous. I don't know, all the colours just look more vibrant and clearer, somehow.

I got my DS lite during the week from Lik Sang, and I did have to pay import duty on it (you generally do on console hardware). It comes out to about €40 (21% on item value plus freight, then an extra 2%, for DHL I assume). DHL pay for you and pass it through customs and send you an invoice later (DHL did ring me up the morning of the day it was delivered saying I'd have to pay the courier, but then she didn't know anything about it. Invoice came the next day).
Although make sure they charge you the right value. The attached invoice from Lik Sang quotes US$, and that was the value that had the VAT applied to it on the DHL invoice. Had to ring them up to get that sorted.

I ordered on Sunday evening and it arrived Wednesday lunch time. Very happy with it. Thankfully not a dead pixel in sight.

I decided to order the adapter from Lik Sang Europe, thinking I'd get it sooner and not to delay the DS (they were out of stock in Hong Kong). But it seems they were out of stock in Europe too (based in Germany). It only got shipped yesterday evening. Won't be able to use the DS again til next week. :(

    I got mine from e-bay. took 2 days :)

    Bought usb charger with it.

So how much in total(including the 21%) did yours cost ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,896 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

im considering picking up a lite in the states as ill be over there in the summer.

any one here have an american DS? If I get a european battery and charger will that work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

I ordered mine a week and a half ago from Lik-Sang.
It took 2 days to get from Hong-Kong to Ireland.
It arrived in Ireland last Thursday - then nothing.
I rang DHL seeing as the DHL Tracking never got updated since it arrived in Ireland, and they told me that they lost it, and have no idea where it went after the container it was on was scanned.
    Fu**ing Clowns.
Today they(DHL Ireland) rang me again to re-confirm that they had lost it.
    Bloody Typical !

    Which was nice of them.
    I can imagine the conversation:
DHL: Sir, do you remember that package we thought was missing?
You: Yes *said with an air of hopefulness*.
DHL: Well we definitely have, see ya around.

Ordered a lite and a copy of New Mario Bros today off Liksang, can't bloody wait to get my hands on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

    DHL never found my Lite.
Lik-Sang re-shipped on Thursday with UPS.
    It arrived today !!!
    Hurray !!
It's most excellent - the on-screen colours are MUCh more vibrant thean the original console.

There's a link for DHL shipping on you order in Lik-Sang.

Hopefully you'll get yours - I assume you saw the screw-up DHL made of mine (posted above) ?

I got a DS Lite from Lik-Sang this morning (a surprise gift, yay!), and it sadly has 2 stuck pixels on the upper display. I mailed them to ask can I get a replacement, no reply yet.

Is there any disadvantage to importing a DSlite as oppose to waiting for it to come out here, apart from the power supply issue and cost? Can it play all the DS games sold here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,616 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    June 23rd Release Date Confirmed

    £100 (€150, no doubt...)

The power supply issue is fixed by the 5 euro plug you can buy from Lik sang made specifically for charging DS purposes

It plays all games, no issues at all

When I took it out of the box it took a few minutes to figure out how to get it into English, but that's my only tiny tiny gripe

    It's the sexiest handheld ever

Battery is pretty good aswell, I got a full weekend of heavy Advance Wars and New Mario Bros out of it before the light went red
