Hi, just bought a DS and im delighted i went for it and not the psp. I reckon itd be a good system to play an rpg on but i dont know what to get. Any recomendations? Something with a non childish storyline maybe?

That would be my only complaint about the DS so far - the childish humour and games. Even when youre playing advance wars im thinking to myself - "Will ye shut up, i dont want to read ye talking s%%$£, i just want to play the game".

If you can, get Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. It's great fun, there's lots of old-school Mario references, and it's just very funny. I loved it.

Not too many RPGs at the moment on the DS but Mario and Luigi is excellent. It might be 'childish' but it's buckets of fun.

You might want to try the two GBA Fire Emblem games. They play like Advance Wars (developed by the same team in fact) but have a fantasy RPG storyline. The storylines are very mature, in fact some of the of last generation. The golden sun games are excellent but also very traditional RPG's.

Thanks, i dont know about Mario and Luigi but the Fire emblem games sound like they could be good.

Sorry about complaining that most games are childish. I knew that before i bought the DS but the games look like their far better than the PSP. Id say Zelda DS will be a good one. Never played a Zelda game but from the trailer it looks like it makes excellent use of the touch screen.

In that case you should get the GBA Zelda games... A Link To The Past/Four Swords, and The Minish Cap. They rock :)

Oh man, you are so missing out. But I do envy you. I'd love to play a link to the past for the first time again. The zelda games are just magnificent. Buy them immediately, you won't regret it.

I actually prefer Fire Emblem to advance wars.

Isn't there an RPG out for the DS now called Lunar Crisis or somesuch? I've seen some pretty poor reviews of it though.

What RPGs have you liked in the past?

Definitely the Golden Sun GBA games are worth checking out.. very nice graphics and a good traditional RPG storyline.

Minish Cap is brilliant as well.

Lunar Genesis I think and I haven't seen any favourable reviews. I was never a fan of the original Lunar games.

Ive played and loved all the final fantasy games on the PS1 and PS2. The storylines is what i really liked about them. I played other RPG's like Grandia 2 but i didnt finish it as i thought the story was poor.

The DS is my first handheld so im looking for something with a good story but im not expecting wonders from it. Id say Zelda is a good bet.

Lunar Genesis is distilled horse piss compressed into cartridge form. It's a mockery of the series. Please don't make the same mistake I did, and think 'it's Lunar, it can't be that bad.' It is.

Lost Magic is starting to look really nice though. It's out on the 28th here and has some neat idea - using the stylus as a wand to cast spells for example.

If your looking for a decent story zelda isn't a good bet. It isn't even an RPG. What it is is a fantastic action adventure game.

If you want a decent storyline the Fire Emblem games are your best bet.

Golden Sun might be a good bet as well. The story isn't anything special (despite a fantastic opening) but there are some wonderful puzzle and platform bits in the game.

How far did you play into it? I really liked the way the story goes in that once it's done with the whole running from seal to seal to stop them being opened storyline... That game really conveys an amazing feeling of hopelessness towards the end.

I played about 6-8 hours into it. The gameplay was interesting enough but I thought the characters were poor and the story was a real let down because of it. I might be wrong about that one now, i don't know. My interest in it just fizzled out.

I didn't like it as much as the first game but thought it was excellent all the same. I loved the characters especially the evil girl and the religious fantatic female bad guy, what ever their names were. Have to agree with the monkeyfudge about the storyline. It's a bit like Tales of Symphonia, it takes a while to get going and seems unoriginal and bland to begin with.

Lost Magic is coming out next week (April 28th), word from Japan and the US is that it meant to be very good from what i've heard, i'll be picking it up anyway. Also if your a fan of Anime that's another reason to get it as its designed by Yoshiharu SATO, from Ghibli Studio, so the visuals will definatly be spot on. Plus there is a multiplayer Wifi mode
