I'm a proud owner of a 360 but I've read many articles on how the PS3 will according to Sony and many others "out perform" the 360?? Take a look at these three reasons why I don't understand how PS3 will out perform the 360?
And please fell free to correct me as I told you I don't understand and need an explanation on how PS3 is suposed to be better!
    1) http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/617/617951p1.html

    2) Sony says the RSX will be more than twice as powerful as two 6600 Ultra's, the 7800 cards are better than two 6800 ultra's. The 360's GPU is better than the 7800 cards.

    3) http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/352.html
This article clearly tells us MS has taken 4% of the total power to be used for the OS, in the other hans Sony is using a massive 25% of the total power.

I really need a answer here a will apreciate anyone who enlightens me.

Sony(well, nvidia) said the RSX would be more than twice as powerful as two 6800 Ultras a long time ago, when that was the best thing on the market. Key words being 'more than', the specification isn't even 100% officially finalised but expect it to be very similar to that in the 360.

The big difference between the two consoles is the processor. The 360 has a 3-core PPC-based processor, while the PS3 has an 8-core PPC-based processor. There's some fundamental design differences so its not like the PS3 has 2 and a half xbox 360s in there, but general opinion is that the PS3 can do more than the 360 with properly optimised code.

The big noticeable difference is of course storage capacity, the 360 uses DVDs while the PS3 uses Blu-Ray. That means a PS3 game can contain significantly more data. The PS3 also has far far more connectivity and AV options for what its worth.

won't the real arguments start when we see the PS3 released and we get some games to compare ?

Very true. Not very many people care about tech specs. I'm looking forward to seeing games side by side. For cross platform development I'm guessing that there will be no noticable difference.

Exactly dont rush out and buy a console until the games are released. Dont listen to hype because thats all it is.

I think the real question here is why is someone with Nintendo's mascot as their avatar concerned about tech specs...?????:p

I love flashy graphics as much as the next guy. Not because I'm shallow and think good graphics = a good game. I want a game to be a completely absorbing experience and glitchy animations and poor textures can ruin that experience. But at the end of the day, it's all about the gameplay.

The Revolution is meant to be just a bit technically better off than an original Xbox. But which system do you think will have the most innovative games?

Tech specs aren't the main concern!

    Spot on jellycopter.

Its not about what console has what etc its down to the games. Pep dont buy a console unless you like the games that are on it not what specs it has.

Like the last gen (this is my taste) the xbox was the most powerful (dont row) but I prefered the games on the gamecube because they where the most fun.

OK firstly, jst because mario is my avitar doesnt mean I can't say what I said, not that you were saying I couldn't say it but it was kinda implyed, and secondly IMO grafic's make the game more too the get you into the game look what 3D did to GTA but ye there not everything just make the certain games better.

GTA III always looked terrible. It was the technology that allowed the game to be in such a huge sprawling city that made the game special. What will really be interesting will be how developers use the new technology to create something new and exciting. What we have seen has just been prettier versions of existing game types. Can't wait to see what the GTA of the next generation is, a game that will blow away are preceptions of what videogames can do. As I recall GTA 3 can out of nowhere with hardly any marketing.

I'm definately not having a go at you or anything, Freer.

I just think we're pretty much reaching the stage now that most consoles are gonna be much the same when it comes to their muscle.

I mentioned Nintendo because it seems they are deliberately taking a sidestep outta the "my dad is bigger than yours" agrument that Microsoft and Sony are having at the mo.

Regardless - most gamers buy all the major consoles nowadays anyway right?

As for what has been said about the GC having better games than the XBox. I'm inclined to agree! My GC collection certainly looks more impressive and I got more gaming time outta those titles.

But most joe soap people DO buy stuff because of hype and specs. Is the ipod the best mp3 player? hell no, but it outsells all the others because it's heavily advertised as being the best. Even though they break constantly. It's just an example.

Well, technically in that example. People don't buy on tech specs.

    ;)

I read on tech blogs, there is serious delays with THE ps3 , they don,t even have full programming dev kits sent out yet, there are serious issues regarding game programming on cell cpu,s.Its like going over from writing in english to russian, its a whole new environment,i think you will see no improvement,in the ps3 over the 360, any pc programmer can write games for the 360,with pc/xna tools ,wait till the games come out in 6months that use the full power of the 360, 3 core cpus. SONY,S at least 12months behind the 360,in regard to providing a programming /developer tool kit.No one has even made a game demo level for the ps3.

sony bought SN Systems who have constantly been updating the compilers and debuggers for the ps3 for about a year now.

first devkits were sent out after last years e3, which had hardware for everything (not up to spec, but there was hardware to work with none-the-less)... including cell chips.

game demo's have not only been made, but entire crops of games have been completed. kojima studios said they'll be done with MGS4's engine by mid-late summer. there will be demo booths at e3. in fact, i do recall hearing about an Unreal demo running off a devkit at GDC for the public to play with (using a ps2 joypad).
