I got a nasty virus on my laptop on Friday, I have tried everything to get rid of it. Spybot/Ewido or Adware dont pick it up. In the beginning it was changing the permissions so that I couldnt edit the registry or change my homepage, now after using the above programs its not as bad but in my system tray two icons keeps appearing saying System Error or Spyware infection and various "Windows" detecting spyware errors and my homepage keeps changing to http:/// and a couple of mins after I log in a link appears on my desktop to "Ad-ware Reviews" . Ive tried stopping processes from the task manager to try to see what was causing it to run but theres nothing there.

Ive been trying to sort this since friday morning and Im going crazy! please help!!

You could do a system restore

Start > run > msconfig

Go to the startup tab on the right and disable any program that you don;t recognise from booting up.

Update your anti virus

Restart your PC into safe mode and do a full virus scan.

did a system restore originally and it didnt make any difference, I only had one restore point to the previous day as it is a brand new laptop.

I had looked at the start up programs and disabled them and that doesnt work...

I am completely at a loss, I have tried everything I can think if!!!

There is a spyware program called boozaka, its free, download it, do a scan and print out the results, then start up your laptop in safe mode...
the results will give you all possible files that might need to be deleted in the registry so you will have to go through the files manually...

That is most unsual to be honest.

Are you sure you are using Ad-Aware (you mention Adware above - this may be spyware itself). Also, make sure they are all the latest versions, older versions will not catch everything. And of course AVG anti-virus.

I have repaired loads of PC's in really bad condition with the combination of these three pieces of software, so I am very surprised that they are not catching anything.

Thanks!

Yes tom it is Ad Aware im using. The three programs are picking up loads of stuff everytime i run them from safe mode, but then as soon as i log in again normally something runs and reinstalls them all. Ive used msconfig to change my start up options and even when i select to run no programs or services at start up it still manages to run again approx 60 sec. after i log in.... its soo frustrating!! Ive updated all the programs so they are running the latest versions.:confused::confused:

and run it..............
From your description, I think this might do the job.........
Good luck
BTW turn off system restore first as thats how it's re-incarnating

That's sounds more like a virus, did you scan for that.

Also try Windows Defender
