Firstly thanks to Dropsy for registering for me - heres a few of the interesting hands I played. The structure was pretty fast and the standard was ok, I had fun though.

The bb is in the bathroom. Im on the sb with 24o. Utg who is playing pretty tight raises it to 500, utg+1 who is also playing tight calls. Folded to me and i go all in for 3500. Whilst I think utg has a real hand, I think his range is a litte wider because the bb is absent. Also there are qute a few chips in the pot and I need to get some chips before the blind go up. UTG moved in instantly and utg +1 folds. He shows AQ which is precisely the type of hand I thought he might fold, but perhaps I overestimated what people will fold in this type of structure. The flop comes with 4 on it, turn and river are blanks and I double up, but might not be able to steal the blinds for a while!

A few orbits later I get AJ and raise. A shortstack calls me from the button. The flop is QTx and I bet 2k which almost puts him all in. He shows 77 and folds. I dont show. A few hands later I look down at AA! Utg limps, I raise and a shortstack goes all in. UTG thinks for a while and folds. Shortstack has 88 and I win a medium pot. The next hand I get A2 and win the blinds uncontested. The next hand I get A9 and raise again - I had decided I was calling an all in this hand as I felt someone was likely to take a pop at me, they all fold. At this stage I had a fairly big stack and decided to gear down for a while.

A while later a new player come to the table. He looks like the standard young hotshot Irish tournament player. He is directlyto my right, so Im utg when its his bb. I get AK and make it 5k. All folds to him and he asks me how much I have left, I tell him 20k. I knew from his demeaner he was unlikely to play the hand, but he was trying to intimidate me into not raising his blind again. This actually makes me muchmore likely to do so, but i was always going to be utg if I wanted to do it so he didnt have much to worry about. He folds after a while. The next orbit I look down at TT utg. I make it 5k again, and its folded to him. He thinks and talks for a little while, the whole time I am hoping he pushes so I can call instantly. He finally calls which wasnt exactly what I wanted. The flop was JKx. I think with AJ AK KQ he would of pushed preflop, so whilst im not happy with the board I think its very likely I still have the best hand. However if I bet I dont really wantto call an all in, so I thought the best plan was to check. On this board if I check he may well think im slowplaying anyway. The turn is a blank and we both check. I was talking about this hand later and my friends all think I should bet- when he checks the turn its very likely im ahead and Ill im doing to is giving me a free card to beat him, but i think its very likely he has 77 or 89 which is either drawing dead or drawing to 2 outs, and if I chk the turn I can easily call a bet on the river which is likely to be a bluff. Anyway we both check the river and my TT is good.

I win a big pot by calling a mediums stack all in with 99, he has KT and misses. Then just before a break its foldded to the sb (diffferent player than before), he seems to know what he is doing, but is probably overly tight. He goes all in for roughly half of my stack (about 7/8 blinds I think). I have 55 and think for a while. I looked at him and asked him how many chips he had - when he didnt answer I called. He has Q6 and misses.

So by now I have a pretty decent stack. Afterthe break our table is broken up, which annoyed me as I felt I had a good grasp on my table, but the table I moved to was far better. I had about 40k when I moved, and thriough taking down a lot of blinds Igot up to about 65k, the average was about 32 at this stage. There is one guy at the table from england, hes early 30's and obviously plays a lot - someone who thinks poker is a cool activity. Hes generally ina jovial mood. He raises with AJ and folds to someones all in. A few hands later, with the blind at 1500 3000 he moves in for about 12k or so, its folded to me on the bb with JQs. My initial instinct is just to fold, but I think about it for a while. Im getting a pretty good price and his range is probably quite wide. In the end I call because I dont want people raising my bb. He has j4s and we chop it. 1 orbit later and Im up to 85k after calling an shortstacks all in. The english guy wins a few pots and is up to 40k. The blinds are 2k 4k, I make it 12k utg with TT. Folded to him and he moves all in instantly. I asked the dealer how much it was and she said it was 40k more. I sat thinking for a minute or two and then got interuppted by a waitress. I forget how much it is to me and I look back at his chipstack and realise there is no way its 40k more. So I count it myself and its only 29k more, which totally changes things. Im now getting nearly 2:1. Im still not sure about it though, his movement was totally confident, so I really doubt this is AJ AT or 88. The more I think about it though the more sure I am that he doesnt have AA or KK, I think he wouldnt look so confident. He seemed confident but happy for me to fold. That still left JJ and QQ which were definitely within his range, but I decided I was getting too good a price to fold, and if I had to guess a hand for him to have it would be AK. I wasnt really happy with having to race, but another reason to call is that it makes it much less likely I get played back at from then on. Its by far the longest I have ever thought about any decision in poker. So I called - he had AK - ace on the flop and Im back down to average! He bangs the table and dances a round a little bit.

We have another break as we get into the money, and Im moved to another table. About 2 hands in and its folded to me on the button, I see 24o. The bb is a very tight player, so I push. The sb folds and the bb thinks for ages. After a while I start to genuinely not care if he calls or not, the prize money is pretty flat for the next 10 pppl or so and I have 10 blinds. Also the fact that he is thinking about it means he probably does not have a pair. After a while he calls with AQ! Brilliant I think, what a story this will make; HJ wins the 300fo after being al in preflop 2 times with 24o against AQ! Unfortunately fate doesnt enjoy a good joke and the flop comes up TQA or some other such crap. After counting the chips im down to about 1 blind. I valiently call all in a few hands later with 77 and lose to 99. So a proft of €230 for my troubles.

I quite enjoyed the tournament, but the only reason I had a big stack was my pairs held up against overcards. As soon as they didnt I got knocked out. I think this will be my last tournament without a really decent structure, I just dont get to play enough poker to make it interesting enough for me. For about 3 hours I made one post flop bet!

Yeah, was tough structure alright. I was never below average until very shortly before my departure, yet as early as Level 5, I needed to commit my whole stack to take down any raised pot I entered. Your 24o suckout against Rory Liffey's AQ was worth the entrance money alone. wp ul etc
