if they're north american region 1 dvd's, yes.(at least i think north america is the only continent where its legal to release unrated dvd's)
    if they're bootlegs, no.

Apparently Brtish customs routinely confiscate copies of the uncut version of cannibal holocaust people have ordered on the web. Which I assume means its illegal in britain which means its probably illegal in Ireland.

Interesting.....I never thought about the question to be honest. Guess we all own alot of these "illegal unrated" dvds so...:)

I actually found buying most of my DVDs R1 in unrated editions nearly worked out cheaper then buying the regular shop bound european editions. Made sense. :D

@ babybing. I don't know if Cannibal Holocaust is still illegal here. It was shown last Hallowe'en in the IFI as part of their Horrorthon.

are you gonna be telling the censor you got these discs
just do what everyone else does friend. if you want it buy it over the net . just steer clear of bootlegs .
i collect a serious amount of horror , and mostly get them from japan usa and italy.
just got the full uncut faces of death box set was looking for it for ages even ebay banned the sales of it. you will get the odd guy selling it on there but there getting banned for it
as i said above .just get what movies you need off dvdsoon or www.cdjapan.jp both are exelent sites

The on-line retailers have no problem selling them so I suppose its just unlucky if you're caught with them

Yeah I know and I believe it was the full uncut version also(can anyone confirm this) which I thought was very strange. I thought animal cruelty was a big no no in films and I cant imagine irish censors giving it an 18 rating with those scenes in, not to mention the abortion scene:eek:    . Also you wont find it in hmvs or extra visions so I think it is still banned. Perhaps the ifi have some sort of special privalege seen as its like a club?

Yes. The IFI is a privite club and can show unrated films.

It's mainly that as getting a film rated costs a couple of grand and a small art house film that will only show for 1 or 2 nights isn't going to be able to justify that cost.
