    Hi all,

My sony dvdrw dw-q28A can't read/burn cd's but can read/burn dvd's fine. so am looking for a new dvdrw drive.

Can anybody recommend me a model/shop? thinking of getting a benq. any other recommendations? Looking to spend max e50-60.

Used for the occasional dvd/cd writing. Have a seperate dvd-rom for reading cd/dvd's.

    Cheers!!

This is the one , generally regarded as one of the best drives out there , the only drive you'll ever need ,

Comes in Black , Silver , and White ,

Its OEM though , so you have to have software already !

i can vouch for benq, i have one (DW1640) and its a great burner, that one doesn't have lightscribe though but then again like dvd-ram it's probably a feature that you won't really use

Another vote for BenQ 1640/1650 [same drive] great writer plus the Solidburn feature analyses your most common burnt media to improve them. You also get proper book-type support and it's a great reader as well.

    [1655 is Lightscribe version]

I'd also recommend the NEC burner. They're a lot more solidly-built than most the Taiwenese/Korean stuff I've seen. I've also got an Asus one here - good drive but very flimsy tray, and the read light never worked -_-

I've had NEC CD-ROM drives for over 8 years that just never die!

NEC unfortuantely aint all that anymore their latest 455x simply inst as good as the BenQ 1650 coupled with NEC selling out to Sony there is some uncertainty on future original NEC designs as Sony just like putting out re-brands. Funnily enough this new joint venture will be using Lite-On drives & Sony are currently using BenQ drives but before that Lite-On.

And now Lite-On is taking over BenQ! though a BenQ employee has said that nothing is changing and they will continue to use BenQ/Philips designed chipsets which is what gives BenQ the edge over other drives. Makes me wonder in Lite-On will start using Philips chipsets (I really hope so), Lite-On drives just might be worth it again :D

But BenQ/Philips and LG are the top dogs at the moment for writing quality.
