Hi boards, hope someone can help with this.

A friend dropped up his computer which will not get past this error,

(When trying to update a password, this return status
indicates that the value provided as the current password
    is not correct)

I removed the hd set it to slave and put it in my computer then ran
a complete virus check, spybot s+d and ms malicious software removal
check. None of the above found anything, I can access all the files so should i just back up to cd/dvd and do a fresh install?

That was a very vague post that has no obvious connection to lsass. Please post more details

I know you did a virus scan but the sasser worm screws with the Lsass (Local Security Authority Subsystem Service) a lot of problems can be traced to this so try running Mcafee's Stinger removal utility.

Boot into safe mode if you can to run stinger.

In case it is Sasser Symantec have links to all the patch versions for different operating systems for the Lsass buffer overrun.
