Is there a Pub/Bar with a "decent" smoking area in YOUR town???

Yeah, but market research for what? The OP is hardly selling smoking areas...

On the off chance that there's a valid reason for this thread, it varies in Virginia, as with most towns I imagine. The busier pubs will cater for their clientelle(sp), and can afford to do so well. The rest just build a lean to and slap up an outdoor heater!

Well it could be a 'representative' from a chain of pubs trying to see what works/is popular as a smoking area and why, after all it would be far easier for them to post it here then to actually get up of their asses and get out on the streets.

Ryevale Tavern: little "tent" outside, fits 30 to 40 people, comfortably. Has seats. The nightclub's backyard is now the smoking area, no cover.

3 Sisters: out back, no cover, no seats.

The Courtyard: lots of little "tents", each fitting about 10-20 people. Also balcony, with umbrellas on the tables. Both have seats.

City centre, Dublin
Fibbers: smoking area, covered. Has seats. Fits lots of people (about 50, I'd say, at a guess).

Temple Bar Music Centre: Half covered. Get about 20 people in the smoking area (upstairs). Manily used by band members/press, during gigs. Open to public when its less busy. During gigs, public mainly has to go outside front door.

Zanzibar: forget if it has umbrellas, but it has tables. Fits a good crowd.

Liffey Valley, Dublin
The Arc: covered, roof, and sides. The walls are made up of slanted pieces of wood. Lets the wind through (a bit chilly), but not the rain. Seated.

Carlow, Carlow
The Barracks: has seats, no idea how many it fits, as it was quite when I was there.

The Dinn Ri: has seats, umbrellas, fits a good crowd.

Scraggs: smoking area was out the back last time I was there

The Foundry: Smoking area was covered, no seats.

Dinn Rí's smoking area is great especially during the summer
Leverett and Fryes on Dublin St. have the only fully covered S.A. in the town would fit 40 to 50 peeps I'd say ...possibly more. The best IMO
The Barracks would hold about 25-30 I'd say, its allright but not great, only half of it is covered
The Foundry S.A. is always jammers so much so that sometimes it can be unbearable as there is no air..kinda like hotboxing!!

Temple bar (the actual pub) has a sweet smoking area, small but cozy

The Russell Court Hotel (where the Ivy night club is) has the best smoking area in Dublin.

Harveys in Waterford is pretty cool it has a huge outdoor smoking area with tropical decor and 2 bars drinks are a little more expensive but it has a good pre club atmosphere

So a few of the examples you cited could actually get the pubs fined. Maybe Smoker is looking to cash in on ratting them out.

D2, Fitzsimons, The Temple Bar, Gogerties, Hairy Lemon....hmmm, don't know of any REALLY good ones...D2's the best one I've seen..apperantly there's another place on Harcourt St. with a really good smoking area...on my travels i've failed to find it though.

Enlighten me people cause i've been on the search for a good pub/club and good smoking area combo for a while now..

Basically its a spam advertiser who trys to hide it. i.e. "I was just browsing the net the other day and found this really interesting website.....", neglecting to tell people that he actually runs/owns/is employed by that website. It can also be done for market research aswell.

Harveys in Waterford is the best smoking area I've come across so far, you would hardly know you were outside. It makes a mockery of the smoking ban which is cool. I just hope all the little nanny staters stay clear of the place. Geoff's bar has a smoking area which is completely covered in and worth a visit.

There are plenty of bars where the ashtrays come out, but you have to be in the know and either a regular or know a regular.

have to say that the smoking area in fibbers is good, (roof, heaters, tables, chairs (comfy ones) and its beside the pool tables so you can nip out for a cig in between beating challangers.)

Also the big tree on dorset street has a good one. you can sit down with your pint and watch liverpool on the outside t.v. while having your ciggy.

You can get the actual legal definition on the net. It is not limited to walls, I think more than 50% has to be open. I have been in many pubs with illegal smoking areas. A large amount were fined last year too, thought you would hear more in the papers. Any pub that gives a good donation in a brown envelope to the "garda benelovent fund" will be allowed have a decent smoking area.
