Is it possible to purchase a new battery for my 5150 that would offer better life than the original battery that came with it,due to the spec of my lappy it only lasts an hour and a half.

I would like more like 2 and half to 3 hour battery life and I was just wondering if improvement in battery life for laptops in the last couple of years may have resulted in batteries with this kind of life on a laptop with my spec.

I know you can buy batteries on Ebay but most just seem to be an original battery just like my own

In reality, there's been no significant improvement in the technologies used in rechargeable batteries (or any batteries for that matter) in maybe five years (just ask the people trying to make hybrid electric cars, or mobile phones, or laptops, or... you get the idea) - if your lappie is relatively new, and has gone through a good deal less than the expected life span of 1000 charge cycles (full charge -> full discharge) or two years (whichever is less), then the only solution right now is a bigger (or another) battery. If your battery has come close to (or exceeded) any of these two milestones, you may want to consider buying a new one, as it's probably not holding its charge any more. I recently bought a replacement battery for my iPod (admittedly one with 35% more capacity than the original) but it increased my play time from four hours to eleven... (spec says eight hours)

Who knows, this time next year we could be using methanol-powered fuel cells, but for the moment, you're stuck with lithium-ion/polymer units, I'm afraid...

Unfortunately as said by the previous poster there have been little changes in rechargeable batteries :( Its a lost cause trying to extend the life of your battery. Hopefully we will see something different soon. Toshiba and Intel were meant to be working on a fuel based cell, heres hoping.
