The Directive has been published in the Official Journal, so the countdown has now begun....

The Directive gave 18 months, if I recall correctly for it to be transposed into irish law.

But the Minister, the last we heard, was planning (or threatening) to challenge the directive as having been made in an illegal manner.

He seems to have cooled on that idea now that he lost the argument.
Given the timing of the next election, we can presume that the department intends that the law will be implemented by way of Statutory Instrument rather than by a law passed by the Oireachtas.
