    Hi,
I just had my laptop on my lap with a duvet over it, so the laptop was sunk into the duvet, I didn't cop anything but it just turned off and when I felt the bottom of the laptop it was quite hot. Is this the reason it turned off? Is there a chance this has damaged anything? I'm using it now again, seems ok...

it probaly turned itself off automatically to prevent it overheating, noting to worry about i would think.

Also, if you're a guy, having a laptop on your lap helps contribute to infertility. Putting it on your lap isn't the best of ideas. At the very least, balance the laptop on your knees as opposed to over the crotch area.

Yep has happened to me before aswell. Check the underside of your laptop and more than likely there is an exhaust hole for the fan thats cooling your processor. Blocking this will result in laptop shutdown due to overheating. Its a safety mechanism so don't worry about it.
