fifa 06 world cup is only 2 weeks away for the 360! game looks fab online now allows 2 players per team on the same xbox! seems in depth game which surprised me as EA seems to be trying to make up for its abysmal fifa 06 rtwc game which was brutal. anyone know when demo will be available on marketplace??

Will probanbly be useless like the rest of the fifa games! Dunno how anyone can play it! Pro evo is the way to go!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,244 ✭✭✭irishchris

didnt ask for the usual pro evo's to knock fifa but for genuine fifa fans to reply to.

My personal preference would be Pro Evo, but ive played and enjoyed all the fifa games so far, except the xbox 360 one, which was absolute tripe.

Looking forward to see how this one plays, hopefully much better then the last offering.

I haven't seen too many 'first impressions' reports from magazines or websites so that would definitely worry me. It seems to have appeared out of nowhere if the release is only two weeks away. Certainly no major coverage anyway.

I'd love to see a good next gen soccer game, even just to tide me over until Pro Evo 360 but I can't imagine this being it. It'll still sell by the bucketload though.

there are a good few reports around the net about it and surprisingly all are not good - they are GREAT!! the latest review is from ign (normally slate any sport game which does not involve "AMERICAN" football), are even agreeing thats its defo a gamed to watch out for!!

Yeah but to be fair, how much do IGN know about "soccer"?

I'm looking forward to the new Fifa on the 360, even though I've always been a Pro Evo lover. I really want to see what a non-rushed (hopefully) football game looks and plays like on a next gen console.

To be honest I think I kinda hate PES5. I just can't warm to it, what with all it's inconsistant passing and first touch messing about. I'm sorry, but if I press the pass button and aim for a team-mate 5 feet away I don't expect someone like Nedved/Keane/Ballack to kick the ball out for a throw like a pub player might do.

Maybe I'll be converted by the new Fifa.

I hope they develop a solid base for their next gen engine.

FIFA was great on 16 and 32 bit consoles, and it was good on current gen but just lacked something. I still very much enjoyed it though and may pick up FIFA 2007 which I expect to be the first big push.

FIFA sucks ass, I haven't palyed PES5 either but I've played FIFA and it sucks. I can only hope nobody buys this game after the sham of games EA released at launch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,860 ✭✭✭Julez

Has anybody else noticed that FIFA gets a little more like PES every year?! I played through the RTWC, and the controls are 99.9% the same as the pro evo controls, which have been consistant since the begining! I don't seem to feel as in control of the players when playing FIFA, its hard to explain though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭jellycopter

I'm not debating whether or not the current fifa game sucks or not, it most certainly does. Not only do the players look like they're made of plastic, the game plays like...like...well it just doesn't play at all, really.

Pro Evo 5 is definately a sign that the once mighty are starting to wobble though. It pains me to say it, cos typically I'd have played the current PES right up until the release of the new version. :(

Just to let you guys know that while Fifa World Cup will be release on April 28th - the World Gamer Live event in Maynooth (29th) will have a number of copies up for grabs as well as it featuring as one of the main tournaments - we are also trying to organise that the winner will get some sort of bye into the later rounds of the Xbox Cup running later this month/May

There is also a Xbox 360 up for grabs, Magnet broadband subscription and 1 years free EA games - all for €15 for 24hrs play

    Can't say I agree there.

I've played every PES religiously since the N64 days of ISS and I can safely say 5 is the best

People give out that it's too easy to foul, you have to adapt your game so you don't always foul

it's those who rely on holding down the A button to pressure the opponent are the people who have suffered the most

I couldn't be happier with it, but apparently 6 is going back towards 4 gameplay wise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

IGN gave the new FIFA 8.4/10 so it mustn't be that bad. Their review scores are usually pretty right.

Apparently, the gameplay is closer to Pro Evo than ever before and they mention a $29.99 budget price in the US. I haven't heard of any budget price plans for over here but perhaps that's because I can't imagine soccer games do too well in the States.

i got it friday and its absolutely brilliant!! was a shock as did not know what 2 expect after the dismal last offering from ea but this beats all that came before it. offline the game is massive really longlasting from qualify to world cup tournament. online is great too and can now have 2 players on each team!! all in all well worthy of the high reviews it was getting pre-release!! A MUST FOR ALL FOOTY FANS!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,267 ✭✭✭mcgovern

For two online you normally have to set up a second profile, and get the second player to sign in under the new profile. Saying that, i dont have the game but most two player live games need to be set up similar to this.

So i see some people seem to like this game, i just have one question: for anyone who thinks the game i good have you always liked fifa games? I would like a hardcore pro evo player's view of the game........

Does anyone playing this live, have lag issues with ntl broadland. I have the 3mb line but it doesn't run smoothly.
Most other games are fine though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭3rdDegree

There's a demo available for download on Marketplace if you want to try this out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Arciphel

yep i have the 3mb ntl bb and it stutters a bit too, but having said that it is fine with GRAW, PGR360 etc. probably just EA and their crap servers.

i have tried to sign in two profiles on xbox live and all that but nowhere does it give me the option to select sides and have two players on the one team, argh!

I'd consider myself a hardcore Pro-Evo'er and I picked up World Cup yesterday to see what it was like

to start with it's confusing, because you can't switch the controls around to be more PES like. When you get the hang of it gameplay is fun, but it's quite easy to rack up 5 or 6 goal wins every time

It's fun, but FIFA is still way behind PES in everything but presentation

It feels like a game for 12 year olds, after the clever AI in PES playing this feels like a step back despite the fancy graphics

some very big bugs seem to have made it past testing too. Players off my team disappear every second or third throw in, and I'm passing between invisible team-mates for a few seconds before they come back, and as was mentioned, framerate is quite iffy at times

    edit:

played a game last night against a guy I regularly play PES with (with no lag whatsover) and the lag and stuttering made it totally unplayable

EA's policy of using their own servers is stupid

yea just played the demo. there is an option called "analog new" and its just the exact same as pro evo. even down to the hold left trigger and hit y for an over the top through pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Arciphel

so has anybody got the two player co-op mode on xbox360 live working yet?

Got a review copy of this off EA and its sitting in my house in Dublin. My bro is bringing it down tonight though so can't wait to sit down and see what it's like.

Pity I start my finals on Monday :(

Playing it on the xbox(non 360) and there is some nasty framerate issues. It has all the usual Fifa presentation.

It's like playing in soup though, not as much freedom as PES, that said its an ok game, but a little random for my liking.

Can you not do a long pass like in PES where you keep your finger on the button.

I.E, a skip pass instead of passing to the nearest team mate.

Why does every long pass or shot have a weird chipping curl feel to it.

Also its easy to hit 50-60 yard passes onto your teamates chest all the time.

anybody out there with an xbox360 with no HDD, apparantley according to EA the game will not be as good on your machine with longer load times and some frame rate issues as the HDD is sed to cache information for the game as needed. what a load of cock, why oh why did m$ create this stupid two tier hardware level.

I'm sorry to burst anyones bubble out there but this game is just not good enough...I dont care what soccer game I'm playing, if it's good then I'll give it credit. This would be a good game, not a great game, on the Sega Megadrive, but on a bleedin next gen console, give me a break. I got the game 2 days ago, I'm bringing it back if I can. I debating whether to buy another game from EA, I bought Fight Night 3, again it's ok, Fight Night 2 is probably abit better. It seems they are using the same platform / game template since they started creating games.
I play to games to play online...even with the performance issues, to date, COD 2 has given me the most satisfaction.
Who's fault is it? Should MS take some of the blame or are they happy for dodgy games to be released on their console. If I were they I would be screening all games that are released, afterall they are the ones that it will effect the hardest.
    What are your thoughts?

I'm thinking of getting this at the weekend - what's the problem with it? Can you be more specific in your criticism (would be v helpful to me :D ). Also, are you running it with the HDD?

After playing the game a fair bit, i can confirm its for kids, or people who want to see flashy animations of players.

If you are even remotely skilled in PES, don't play this random, zero skill game.

There is no fluid movement or control over what is happening.

6/10 - Nice presentation though, gameplay is 2nd rate.

Team setup is lacking as well, no customised formation and instructions :(

truly the best there has ever been from ea!
