How does one go about receiving a bank transfer? I have an AIB account which sent out the original transfer. Now the deal has gone sour and the money needs to be returned. What information should I give to the seller?

If it's foreign you will need to give IBAN and swift/BIC code as well as name and address of bank and of course the account number. If it's local then just the sort code, address and account number.

It's local, but the guy is from europe. So it will be foreign for him to send the money to me. Where can you get your own IBAN and swift/bic code?

It will be on your bank statement.

As long as his bank is local then all he needs to do is fill out a transfer form with sort code , name and account number. However if your bank, for example AIB, is not the same then he'll have to go to an AIB to transfer the money. Banks these days only have transfer forms for their own branches. :( Alternatively he can send you a bank draft direct to your address. I think they cost €2 or so.

If his bank is foreign then ask your bank for all of that. IBAN is usually at the top of statements along with sort code and account name and number. He'll know about IBAN and probably BIC rather than Swift.

    Hi
If you are with AIB you can generate the IBAN number on IBAN.

Or call your bank and they can let you know what you need.

    Regards

Thanks for the help guys. I called my bank to make sure that skynet site did give the correct IBAN number, it's right :)

Oh one more question. Is the BIC code the same as the swift code?

Yup, they are one and the same.
