every so often norton firewall pops up to ask me if skype may be permitted to connect to the internet, of course i do, there used to be a option to permit always but it is no longer there, just yes or no, very annoying it already asked 4 times this morning.

    any ideas

Not familiar with norton , but is there not an accessible interface like zonealarm whereby you can go into it and allow/disallow specific programs to access the internet individually ?

Norton always does that, My advice is to uninstall it and never speak of it again:p

But seriously, there are better alternatives, some of them free

Zonealarm and Kerio Are both free, and have better retail versions for ~€30

My sentiments exactly... going a bit off topic some versions of Zonealarm was found to be "phoning" home...

    Yup,

You can just add it to your hosts file, and it cant phone home.

Peer Guardian 2 also blocks it, and on the topic of security its a great program for blocking known ad servers, spyware.........

It will annoy you for a while like all software that "learns" but its a great program and its amazing the amount of thing it blocks:eek:

As previously said, Norton is a pain in the hole...get rid of it!

I use McAffee Personal Firewall Express on Tight Security and I only get asked once what do when a program wants to access the Internet, and again if it wants to accept connections like a server.

    Would reccommend it strongly.

I got Norton with my computer and I gave up on it after it refused to install. I later found that the problem was with virtual drive software I had been using but not before I'd found alternatives.

Its because each Skype contact is a different IP, so Norton asks for each one, which is of course really stupid and it should be uninstalled forever :) Norton products have really gone downhill the last couple of years imo, I used to always buy (yes legally!) that years system works, till 2005 was a complete dog and stopped system shutting down. Have used a hardware firewall and AVG since.

Yup - any decent Mobo these days should have a built in hardware firewall which does the job perfectly - I'm quite happy with the in built DFI one I use.

The only time it asks for the same program is when an update has occurred to that program which is fine by me.
