RTE TV FTA Autumn 2006 ?

    I am hearing rumour that all 3 TV channels will be FTA by Autumn of this year.......
    Has anyone heard of this?

    As they'd say at TG4: ní doigh liom

    Short of getting a footprint that only covers the island of Ireland (RTÉ having already cleared rights for the North) it ain't gonna happen. The only service that might be FTA would be a repackaged RTÉ channel for Britain.

    They could of course join forces with freeview in the UK but with conditional access on RTÉ
    costly though.

    FTA would only be possible in the context of the EU directive on television sans frontiers but that might well prompt a court case over several years... [/end more idle speculation]
