Any help with the following two GAA questions would be greatly appreciated....is there a more popular GAA website/board around on the net?

    Thanks

    1. What Kerry footballer accepted the Sam Maguire even though he wasn't the captain?

    2. The Ulster Championship begins this year with which two counties?

    Here's an easy one:

    1. Who are the only team to have won the All-Ireland outside Ireland, what was the year, who were the opponents and where was it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 OutsidethePale

Cavan '47...that was an easy one

Where was it played and who was the opposition though?

I'll hazard a guess at Declan Darcy, I know he played in provincial finals for Leitrim and Dublin. Not sure who the other team could be though.

I'm almost 100% sure he was from Derry too. Never heard anything about him playing in an AI though, that was just a guess.

Moran was the first player to be sent off in an FA Cup final, dont think he was sent off in an All Ireland final, but could be wrong.

I don't think Martin O'Neill played in an All Ireland minor final. I'd be 90% sure he didnt.

Kevin Moran was not sent off in an All Ireland final.

I believe Socrates is a bit of a myth, I believe he played very little if any gaelic football while studying in Ireland.

I think I heard the question about 4 All Ireland finalists before. I think the other two won All Ireland medals at a Feiles or summat like that - Irwin being one answer as he has certainly won All Irelands at that level. But I believe Moran is the only one to win an All Ireland senior medal, and Quinn the only one to have played in an All Ireland minor final.

I already mentioned Irwin and was told he isn't one of the four.

Indeed, I'm just speculating whether Kev's answers are correct or not. I believe he is wrong in saying Martin O'Neill played in an All Ireland minor final, therefore he may be wrong about Irwin. Irwin certainly didnt play in a minor final, but he did play in a Felie. Actually I've just rememerbed it was community games rather than a Feile where Dinny won his All Ireland medal. Someone else from that Irish soccer team also won a medal at national communtity games, but I cant remember who.

Be interesting to hear who Kev's fourth man is.

I'm not saying I'm definitely right either, but stories often get exaggerated. A number of soccer players have played underage GAA for their counties, and suddenly the myth develops that they played a lot more than they did. Most soccer players would have been in England when they were eligible to play minor.

Martin O'Neill defeintly DID play in an all_ireland minor final for us.

We were two points down and he missed a pen with the last kick of the game.

But us Derry ones forgive him >_<

Also Steve Staunton definetly has an all-Ireland minor medal.

I've asked people this and posted on other message boards to get the answer. But people can only come up with Quinn, Moran & O'Neill

Was Stan on the 1936 or the 1940 Louth minor winning team?
Or maybe Stan was on the last Louth team to win Leinster minor, in 1953?
Or maybe you're just full of crap?????
