www.skysports.com (its bang on the top of the page, sky sports and their retarded urls)

    Whats your thoughts?

I think hes pretty much got it down to a T, bar maybe one or two slight exceptions.

    Worth a read anyway

i thought gerrard was a central midfielder ?

he really should have picked specialists for each position and there are better players at right midfield out there than having to throw a central midfielder into that position

Pedersen should be left wing ahead of Cole for a start.

I think its a fair team of the season.
I understand your point about Pedersen but cole has done it all season long at the highest level and produced when it mattered most to grind out 1-0 wins for Chelsea.....unfortunately.
For some positions its just a toss of a coin as players are in-seperatable

seems very biased towards the pool in his comments

you could even put pedersen out right tbh....he should be in the team regardless and if you can put a central midfielder like gerrard out right, no reason why you couldnt have one of the best players of the season out right too....slip gerrard in the centre, take out lampard or makelele.

So has Pedersen. Cole has 7 goals and 4 assists to Pedersen's 9 goals and 9 assists. The fact he's not English was the deciding factor I'd say.

Think you will find Pedersen has been better over the current season than Cole who has been great in fits and starts. Remember he has been pulled off a few times for playing sh*t. That has not happened with Pedersen that I can remember. Maybe taken off for a rest.

Hmmmm fair enough point, as i say some players are just a toss of a coin, Andy Gray aint English though doubt he is too biased towards english players being a scot.
I just had a thought there and im starting to agree with ya, i guess you could argue Cole has more quality around him in a Chelsea team where as Pedersen is producing great displays in an average team

I dont agree with that andy gray, he's always sucking up towards the english players when commentating on matches.

I think Gallas, Pederson and Darren Bent should be there. Im not sure about gardner either of Bolton?

Amazing that 7 of the 11 players are English when the debate rages about the preference for foreign talent. I would tend to agree that Pederson was probably overlooked because he wasnt english. It is true Gray isnt english but his employers and the majority of his audience are.

Well done to Ricardo Gardiner, it is surprising to see a player from an unfashionable club make the team. I would have though that Steve Finnan would have had a good shout for Nevilles position having had the consitent season he has.

Not so sure about Neville. I mean, he's played well but Finnan and Chimbonda have been as good and have both played the whole season.

Gallas could have a case for getting in at left-back.

Cole only seems to be there because no other left-winger has stood out bar Pedersen who seems to have faded a little of late.

    Can't argue with the rest.

Neville is better going forward which I think swings it for him.

Oh yeah being English helps but I think overall he is better quality than Finnan

Gray isn't English but he works for Sky and they love all things English. Although the same could be levelled at RTE but they are at least our national station. BBC gives the most unbiased English view if you ask me. They actually try to look at things from a British (as in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and not just England) and Irish perspective.

That's why they tend to have pundits from the different countries on regularly.

I can see why he would put Gerrard on the right wing, since he has operated there for Liverpool at times this season, but I think it was a bit much to say that "there is nobody in the world better" there...

Using the Gerrard logic why not Gallas at LB? Not main position but has player there.

I'd definitely take Cech out and put Lehmann in. Also Makelele out, Gerrard in the middle and an actual right winger on the right. No idea who though. I just think putting Gerrard on the right is a bit of a cop out. I don't care if he's played there for Liverpool this season, it's not his position.

what about van der sar he has been brilliant this season. one of the main reasons for united doing better this year than last an unsung hero imo

    Chech
    Nevile Terry Carragher Gardner

    Gerrard Lampard Makelle Cole

                                Henry Rooney

I'm surprised Given didn't get 'keeper of the year either. Cech has made a few mistakes this season and Given has had a lot more to do.

    Cech
    Finnan-Terry-Carragher-Gardner
    ?-Gerrard-Makelele-Pederson
    Henry-Van Nist

Yeh, but this season he has been poor for the first half of it.

Agreed, and I have heard of Given saving the day more often than Cech.

even van der saar could be no.1, given deserves it though as he is basically newcastles only form of defence :p

he picked the sort of side that anyone wuld pick before the season started- pretty expected, usually performs, the big names from the big clubs......

it's a safe 11, bar maybe gardner at LB, had heinze been fit, it would have been him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

I would move Gerrard into CM and play Ronaldo on the wing but apart from that I wouldn't argue with Grays selection .

Hve to agree that Cech has not impressed me this season.

Poor Given has done excellently even when it seems as though his own defence are against him

perhaps id even put Lehman ahead of him (and i have nothing but hatred towards the man, bit harsh i know but what ya going to do)

Gerrard shouldnt be on the right because he hasnt been the best right winger. He should be in the centre, kick one of the chelsea boys out.

Joe Cole, well i think he is so over-rated. Pederson would be a better choice but I bet I'm forgetting someone that should have that position.
