as long as you have a cable to connect it you can hang if from the ceiling if you like. i've no free bays so just have one sitting on the base of my tower. there's been no trouble yet and it's been like that for years.

Reminds me of the time I put a HD in a floppy bay a few months ago, and because it wouldn't fit right, I hammered the edges of the metal around the hard drive to keep it in....thankfully I didn't need to change the HD or I would have been in trouble, it was wedged tighter then a penny :D:D

    I think I've done that a few times actually.....:o

The number of hard drives present in the system is not a factor that affects recording TV under MCE only the size of said hard drives is what should be taken into consideration & most hard dives offer ample storage these days.

    huh?

in mce you set the folder you want to record to and im asking if i can set 2 folders as its isnt very configurable for a alot of other things.

i dont know said size of said hard drive has to do with anything?

The way you worded your question I interpreted it as you were asking will MCE allow more than one hard drive not can you make it record to more than one folder on separate hard drives.

I don't know of any plugins myself for such a thing as I have never tried it with MCE but if your problem is wanting to make the most of the available HD space a hardware solution to that is to RAID 0 or JBOD both hard drives so they are seen as one single large HD by the computer.

For a software solution what you could do is setup some sort of automated batch file system or get a program to run at various times which will copy/move the data from the MCE recorded output folder to a folder on the other hard drive not elegant but it should do the job, but combining your HD's into one with JBOD would be easier I think.

Another method similar to JBOD is to convert your HD's to dynamic volumes in WinXP's hard disc management and then span the volume across the HD's though I'm not sure if MCE supports this.

only problem is that the ventilation in a floppy bay can be dire, leading to HD failure.

Grab a copy of speedfan, and keep an eye on the temps. Ideally it should be below 39deg C. Above this for prolonged periods will mean a sooner death. Maxtors are the worst for a thermal death.

With regard to using space on both HD's to record TV on, you could span the one NTFS partition across the two disks? Or mount one disk in a folder on the other, rather than giving it its own drive letter.

    cheers everyone,
    drive slotted right in :)

used dynamic discs to make mce think its one big drive and now have 400gigs or 200 hours of tv recordign avaialble :D
