I'm looking for some suggestions, I will be booking a honeymoon shortly, getting married in Jan of next year ('07).

I am looking at taking about two and a half weeks but can't decide where to go / what to do.

My budget is about 5K each (before spending money), I wan't a good mix of luxury, adventure and romance. Most people i ask say South Africa but we were there last year.

I have thought about a round the world trip but feel that in the short time we have that we would be spending far too much time in airports, on planes and getting to and from airports.

I would suggest the Maldives, Mauritius, or Tahiti for relaxation and luxury or S.E. Asia for a more adventurous honeymoon. I would shy away from any typical honeymoon destinations like Hawaii or Las Vegas.

It is hard to beat Mauritius for a honeymoon. We were there last year for a friend's weddding stayed at The Sugar Beach resort and had a great time. the weather was very nice, the beach was lovely, the hotel top notch and food excellent. Mauritius is very nice but if you find lazing around a pool and beach boring - you might be hard pressed to pass the time as it is a small island and you could see it all in a day sightseeing.
The other place you could go is Thailand - they have fabulous hotels with excellent facilities. You could spend a few days in Bangkok and then off to the coast. Stop in Dubai on the way out or back!

Have you looked into New Zealand? It sounds like a country with plenty of adventure anyway! It would also be summertime there in January.

We went to Mauritius on our honeymoon last year for 2 weeks. I thought that the first week was fine but after that we were very bored.
Its a small island and I just felt that there wasn't enough to do and its also very quiet at night. I also thought is was pretty expensive. We didn't buy much stuff there because of the price of it and I also thought that the tours were expensive.

I went to Thailand on a holiday a couple of years ago and went for 3 weeks. Had an absolutly fantastic time. Spent first night in Bangkok, then took a train journey up to Chang Mai in the north.....stopping off for a night about halfway up to check out some temples. Did a 3 day mountain hike in Chang Mai, which also included whitewater rafting and some of the journey on elephants. Spent another night in Chang Mai shopping before flying down to Phuket and onto Ko Phi Phi for 3 days relaxing by the beach. Then we got the boat to Ko Lanta and stayed there for about 6 days. Did the PADI diving course here as well. At the end of trip, we made our way back up to Bankok and spent 3 nights in a suite in a 4 star hotel. Did tons of shopping.
All of this, including the flights to Thailand, internal flights, accomodation (which varied from posh hotels to guesthouses - depending on our mood), the diving course, all tours and the shopping, including getting some clothes tailor made.....I reckon we spent about 2,500 each.

I would deffo recommend Thailand for romance and adventure :-)

I hear that New Zealand is also excellent with lots to do. But it might be a bit far to go for 2 and a half weeks....

    Just my two cents!

My sister got married in Cuba last week, herself and the new hubby went out alone to get hitched, they're on an all inclusive 5 star hotel ,it includes scuba diving lessons and as much food and drink as you want. They're in some fancy resort at the mo, heading to havana tomorrow. Swam with dolphins and everything, she's having a ball. It cost them 5 grand for 2, that includes wedding package so I'd say it's cheaper again if you do without the wedding bit
