    Who's they ?

The whole industry has know this for years.

Problem is that windows is easy to write software for and the user base is much too large to ignore. If more games / integrated business apps etc. were written for other OS's then maybe people would be able to try an alternative.

Until then windows will the path of least resistance for new PC buyers especially with the usage of OEM. And people will just have to put up with it until the buyers reject windows. Really upsets me that so many critical applications are based on IE, sorta makes a mockery of the whole "trusted computing" inititive.

Having someone take complete control of your machine if you use IE to view a malacious site is not news. News would be a period of more than 99 days without such a public anouncement of a known vunlernabililty.

I agree with you completely, by 'they' I mean't people in general, not just people in the industry. I find it amazing how many people are kept in ignorance by OEM and the easy way out. Still, I suppose there isn't that much that can be done, except to keep pimping the alternatives.
As for the games though right now its a kind of wait and see. Since the PS3 is supposed to ship with Linux, it will be interesting to see if this has any impact, and if people will become accustomed to using FOSS type software, or if they are too used to windows and will stick with it.
