How would one go about changing ones surname by deed poll if resident in Ireland but of a different nationality? Does it have to be done in the country of origin, or can it be done here?

Understand that if you're resident here you can change your name here, but would imagine you will need original long form birth certs, translations etc.from the country of origin. Ring the Deed Poll office in the High Courts or try it online, they should be helpful.

I changed my name by deed poll 2 years ago.

The judgement section in the High Court deals with this. I didn't find them particualrly helpful in doing it. Go to solicitor was their advice. I can confirm they need the long form Birth Cert.

You will need to get the wording from them for the deed and complete the deed on deed paper and get the Affidavit witnessesed by a solicitor or oaths commisioner. Bring all that back and pay €30 stamp duty and wait a few months to get the completed paperwork back.

Or just get the Commissioner of Oaths (a solicitor offering this service) to do it on the spot :) Are you mixing two ways up there? There is the Commissioner of Oaths way and going directly to the High Court way. High Court is cheaper but if you go to a Commissioner of Oaths sure they'll convince you to do it with them for €100

The High Court want you to have things written out a certain way, it a bit of a pain in the arse. Hey, that sounds like a cool name!

I know from when I did it, they wanted the applicant to personally attend to submit the deed.
